* KickTheSonOfABitch: Jeff is more than justified in beating up Pierce, who is recovering from an overdose, for pretending to be his estranged father. In fact, the others pull him off to ensure that Jeff isn't a killer; everyone agrees that Pierce deserved it. Pierce himself admits he went too far.

* AnAesop: Inverted. Annie derives that Pierce must also be trying to teach her a moral when bequeathing her a tiara, same way as the gifts the other members of the study group received, but Pierce honestly had no hidden intentions with that specific gift. He just gave it to her because she is his favorite.

* TooDumbToLive: Jeff warns Pierce that if the meeting with his father is a prank, then he will beat up the latter and "there will be nothing funny or madcap about it." We know that Jeff works out a lot, and he does not make idle threats. Pierce also just suffered an overdose so he's physically weak. So what does he do? Try to pose as Jeff's father and only talk through the phone. Jeff as a result violently attacks Pierce and needs to be pulled off him by the others. Pierce ends up needing stitches. Perhaps justified, however; judging from his OhCrap response when Jeff makes his threat it's clearly a half-baked and obviously doomed attempt at an IndyPloy, since Pierce has obviously ''not'' managed to get Jeff's father to come along and from Jeff's threat is pretty screwed no matter ''what'' he tries to do.

Continuing from [[Recap/CommunityS2E15Early21stCenturyRomanticism the previous episode,]] Pierce is in hospital after collapsing from an overdose of painkillers. Convincing the others that he doesn't have long left to live, he [[InsistentTerminology bequeaths]] upon them a special inheritance, something which they will all come to regret; Shirley receives a CD which purportedly contains the others talking about her behind her back, Troy an arranged meeting with his childhood hero [=LeVar=] Burton, Britta gets a blank check to donate to a charity of her choice (or herself), Annie a priceless tiara, and Jeff an arranged meeting with the deadbeat father who walked on him years before. And Abed gets to film the resulting meltdown all for a documentary.

* PyrrhicVillainy: Pierce succeeds in getting "revenge" on Jeff, Troy, Shirley, and Britta. In the process, however, he's horrified to realize that he convinced Annie that the tiara was also another trick and that no one can trust him. What's more, Jeff bluntly shouts at him that no one likes him because he's a sick {{Jerkass}} that tries to make friends by messing with people after beating him up.

* BadBadActing: What essentially [[spoiler: gave the already suspicious Jeff definitive knowledge about the mysterious person in the limo being Pierce instead of his long-lost father is the latter's terrible acting.]]

* GoneHorriblyRight: Pierce succeeds in getting a rise out of Jeff by posing as his estranged father. He even gives an EvilLaugh about it. The problem is that Jeff makes him crash another car, nearly beats him to death, and gives him TheReasonYouSuckSpeech about how he's a horrible person and that's why no one likes him. Pierce even realizes he went too far.

** Jeff, who is usually the snidest, callous, and actively cruel to Pierce, receives an actively cruel and malicious 'gift' in return. Though Jeff returns the favor by beating Pierce to a pulp, so that the latter needs stitches and X-rays for a concussion.

* BrokenPedestal: Inverted; Troy's fear of meeting [=LeVar=] Burton stems not from worry that he'll be disappointed by his hero but by worry that he will disappoint his hero. This ends up becoming a SelfFulfillingProphecy when Burton, upon meeting Troy, attempts to make pleasant small-talk only for Troy to completely freeze up. Thouh Levar takes it in stride when Britta explains the situation to the best of her ability.

* EveryoneHasStandards: Downplayed in that Pierce was obviously recording the group, but they refuse to talk about Shirley begins her back. They say that they like her.
