Katie Otto, a middle-class housewife living in the uber-rich Connecticut beach town of Westport, is distraught when she learns that her across-the-street neighbor Pam, one of just two women in town who is fatter than she is, is selling her house. This would make Katie the second-fattest housewife in Westport, so she schemes to make sure the new buyer is ''also'' heavier than she is. In the meantime we are also introduced to her family: mild-mannered college professor Greg; beautiful, bratty teenage daughter Taylor; money-obsessed middle-schooler Oliver; and Anna-Kat, a little girl with OCD whose free treatment at the special-needs program provided by the local public school is the whole reason they live in Westport in the first place. Luckily Katie has her friends Doris and Angela, the only two Westport natives she can actually stand, to help get her through this personal hell.
