The surface is almost completely barren, daylight only comes once every 18 years, the core radiates heat which compensates for the lack of sunlight, some abstract intelligence actively prevents escape and there's a monster on the surface which lives solely to kill anything that isn't it.

* AbsenteeActor: Aside from a brief cameo in the form of a video, nobody from Team Coulson sans Fitz and Simmons shows up.

* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: "It" apparently has the ability to drive people insane, produce illusions, and warp the surface of the planet. Only a few of these can mesh with the abilities later demonstrated [[spoiler:by Hive when it comes to Earth. Specifically, the "illusions" of AFormYouAreComfortableWith could instead be the corpses of other humans possessed by Hive.]]

* GeniusLoci: The planet is ''alive'' and it actively tries to stop anybody from leaving '''ever'''.

* {{Wormsign}}: "It" either creates sandstorms as it moves around or moves with the storms.

* AxeCrazy: The last of Will's fellow astronauts went mad and tried to kill Will with a hatchet. Will had to kill him in self-defense.

* RealityEnsues:
** There's an unopened wine bottle that was left on the planet by an earlier explorer a century or more prior. Since it hasn't been protected from bacterial contamination in any way, it's long since become vinegar. Of course, this would imply that bacteria and other microorganisms actually live on the planet, or at least did in the recent past.
** Two attractive heterosexual members of the opposite sex are stranded across the universe with their last chance at returning home (seemingly) gone. Of course some kind of sparks will fly. Though it does take over five months before Jemma gives in.

* TheStinger: Will is shown to still be alive on the planet, having survived his encounter with the creature.

** Might be a coincidence, but the terrain and the team dynamics also give a certain ''WesternAnimation/InsideOut'' impression.

** The plant-creature that Simmons fights, defeats, cooks and consumes certainly seems to be a smaller cousin of [[Film/TheLordOfTheRings the Watcher in the Water]].
