** Whenever she goes on an escapade in nature, Carol [[NoNudityTaboo ditches all of her clothes.]]
** Carol also walks barefoot in the snow.
* '''Downplayed''': Carol mostly wears sandals on her feet.
** Carol goes barefoot only during forest walks.
* '''Justified''': Carol has sensitive feet, and prefers the feeling of grass and dirt to that of cloth or what shoes are made of.
** Carol is a JunglePrincess and/or was RaisedByWolves, and grew up never knowing what shoes were.
** Carol is a GranolaGirl who believes not wearing shoes gives her a spiritual connection with the Earth.
** Carol has FertileFeet, and [[MagicalBarefooter her power activates only when the skin of her feet touches the ground.]]
* '''Inverted''': Carol always wears protective footwear when she goes out to nature; in city environments, she prefers to go barefoot on the concrete.
* '''Subverted''': Carol seems ready to take off her shoes when in the countryside, but she eventually decides against it.
* '''Double Subverted''': She later changes her mind and goes off for a barefoot stroll.
* '''Parodied''': Carol stubbornly refuses to wear shoes even though she is clearly uncomfortable with the feeling of pebbles and brambles.
* '''Zig-Zagged''': Carol usually takes off her shoes if she’s certain the area is safe for it; if the terrain is craggy or full of dangerous plants or animals, she’ll put appropriate footwear on.
* '''Averted''': Nature isn’t a major part of the story.
** All the characters who show up in natural environments are footless beings like Nagas.
** The natural environment is too dangerous to be traversed barefoot.
* '''Enforced''': Carol was held in captivity for a long time, and [[BarefootCaptives her prisoner attire did not include shoes.]] So, when she escaped, she had to run off barefoot, and [[BarefootPoverty kept her limited attire for a long time.]] Her fondness for being barefoot in nature stemmed directly from enjoying the sensation of dirt and grass against her soles much more than the cold concrete of the prison floor, and she associates the first with her newly gained freedom.
* '''Lampshaded''': “Ah! There’s nothing quite like the feeling of dirt on your feet!”
* '''Invoked''': Carol decides to take off her shoes in a vale, “just to try”.
** Carol grew up as a CountryMouse, and she became so displeased with the city that she adopted this trait to set herself apart.
* '''Exploited''': Carol’s barefootedness helps make her stealthy when she has to sneak into enemy turf.
** Having constant contact with the terrain makes Carol even more aware of any change that occurs, like temperature rising or lowering, or vibrations announcing a larger earthquake.
* '''Defied''': “You never know what the soil might hide; so no, I’ll keep my shoes on, thank you very much!”
* '''Discussed''': “You think she ever gets bothered when she doesn’t wear shoes? That uneven terrain can’t be comfortable.”
* '''Conversed''':
--> '''Bob:''' “You think that girl’s [[GranolaGirl a hippie]]? What with the fondness for nature and the lack of shoes…”
--> '''Charlie:''' “She’s definitely got that vibe, for sure.”
* '''Deconstructed''': Carol’s choice is not always enjoyable: [[AgonyOfTheFeet her feet get exposed to thorny plants and aggressive animals]], and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking always end up dirty and calloused]].
* '''Reconstructed''': Carol has already experienced it and knows to be careful where she steps. She also regularly takes care of her feet.
* '''Played for Laughs''': Carol’s feet are subject to AmusingInjuries.
* '''Played for Drama''': Carol’s feet are subject to AgonyOfTheFeet on the regular, and the injuries she sustains are [[FanDisservice not pretty]].
** Carol goes to the forest and leaves her shoes behind. Her family is so used to this habit that they don’t understand that this time, [[BarefootSuicide she’s giving them a sign that she’s not planning to come back]].
* '''Played for Horror''': During a barefoot stroll, Carol finds herself in a desolate place, where dangerous animals, thorny plants and damaging pollution are all together. Past her shock, she suddenly finds herself called to the very discolored lake at the other end of the vale, and approaches it, seemingly hypnotized. During her walk, [[AgonyOfTheFeet she steps barefoot on bramble, thistles, roses, broken glass, and bent, sharp metal]], but [[DissonantSerenity eerily doesn’t react at all]], until [[DownerEnding she walks in and drowns]], and all that’s left of her is [[FootprintsOfMuck a trail of blood]] from injuries she sustained when she wasn’t herself.

The way back to EarthyBarefootCharacter is very grassy, why not trail it barefoot?
