The story of the infamous mad regent begins before the release of the mod, when the devs began to hint at one particular path in Komi which they said would be "the worst path for Komi and Russia as a whole". Even worse is that [[AllohistoricalAllusion this is the war's equivalent]] to the OTL [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%E1%BB%B9_Lai_massacre My Lai Massacre]], with [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Calley William Calley]] as the real-life leader of the massacre, and [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Thompson_Jr Hugh Thompson]] being credited with stopping the massacre from being worse than it already was by threatening to kill Calley and his men.
