* Vanessa's jumpscare. While every other jumpscare at least has shaking movement and a frightening visage to look at, being caught by Vannesa simply has her... [[DeathGlare angrily stare at you]]. Not helping is the fact that the default high-pitched scream and camera shaking are still used for this particular animation; many have joked that it's due to [[BlindedByTheLight Gregory being blinded by Vanessa shining her flashlight onto his face]], which is somewhat supported by the fact that Vanessa's mouth remains closed during the jumpscare, [[FridgeLogic so it can't be her who's screaming]].

* Springtrap is scary most of the time... except for when he's peering into the room. It looks more like he's perving on you than about to attack you. Also, his jumpscares make him look like he's merely checking you out rather than attacking you. On the other hand, he's the spirit of the child murderer.

* The endings can be hard to take seriously, thanks to the complete shift to a silent 2D comic book-style format, the characters' occasional UncannyValley expressions, and the overall cheesiness of it all. The True Ending, despite being in the game's 3D format, also gets this for the many questions and lack of answers it gives, not to mention the fact that Afton is unceremoniously pulled back into the burning Pizzaplex in a rather comical manner.

* When William!Springtrap finally meets with Charlie and the gang, he proclaims [[ThatManIsDead that he is neither William nor Dave]], but ''"My name is Springtrap!"''. However, instead of coming off as a BadassBoast, it makes it look like he's trying too hard to come off as edgy.

* Similarly, the S.T.A.F.F. Bots all have a nonlethal jumpscare when they catch you, meant to hold you in place so the Animatronics have enough time to close the distance when they hear the alarm. Excluding the more [[NightmareFace unsettling]] variants found in areas like the Sewers, their blank, emotionless faces can make the experience feel more silly than threatening.

* Glitchtrap's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_37O_ej01Y decoded audio]] from the mobile version's Princess Quest minigame is quite chilling on its own. However, the fact that it sounds oddly similar to [[https://youtu.be/BrdHShnxvYg?t=55 Super Buu screaming the same thing at the top of his lungs]] upon being denied candy deadens the scary impact quite a bit.

* While the [[MadnessMantra "fun, fun, fun, fun, fun"]] content warning screen is frightening to some people, this scare is turned into utter hilarity if you are acquainted with the [[https://youtu.be/B1tL6rFsyAQ?t=2m34s "You On Kazoo"]] video.
* Some may see Scraptrap's image in the GoldenEnding as this, considering that the image makes his head look positively ''gigantic'' compared to the rest of his body.

!!''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys4'':
* The nightmare animatronics being more overtly monstrous in design compared to those from the previous games has evoked this opinion for some of the fanbase, feeling the new animatronics to be too over-the-top to be legitimately scary. Then again, maybe this is on purpose -- you ''are'' playing as a child, and many kids have rather bloated imaginations that can make some things we don't find scary terrifying for them. Also justified, as it's all but stated that the Nightmare animatronics are exactly that: manifestations of the child's deepest fears. Thus it makes sense for them to look as horrific as they do.
** One aspect of Chica that many fans often pointed out in prior games is that she very noticeably has two sets of teeth. What does this game do? Why, up the ante by giving Nightmare Chica '''three''' sets of teeth!
* Guess what can kill you now? [[https://youtu.be/Sw3dX1WBdbg?t=173 Chica's cupcake!]]
* Some people think Plushtrap is just too cute and/or small to be scary or threatening, more likely to tickle you than maim you. Doesn't help that 'plush' is commonly accepted as the cuddliest term for a stuffed animal.
* Nightmarionette, introduced in the non-canon Halloween update, is rather creepy, but it's a bit spoiled by the Extra menu presumably chopping its name down to the bizarre "Nightmarionne".
** Some have interpreted its eyes as it being ''totally high'', due to their bloodshot, unfocused nature that's visible when any shots with Nightmarionne are brightened.
* Jack-O-Chica's jack-o-lantern manages to be even ''less'' scary than the Nightmare ''Cupcake''.
* [[http://i.imgur.com/MLW7zpO.jpg Nightmare Mangle]] looks horrifying. Its endoskeleton, though, has plenty of sharp teeth too... but retains the googly eyeballs.
* Nightmare BB probably could have been a lot scarier if Scott made him damaged like the others, but while he's certainly unnerving, he's just as pristine as the real Toy animatronics without a single flaw on his bright plastic exterior.
** Also, his half-lidded eyes, and pitched-down "Hello?" and "Hi" make him seem more like a bored teenager than a creepy animatronic.
