''Vespertine'' is the fifth studio album by Music/{{Bjork}}, released in 2001. It is generally more minimal and [[Main/LighterAndSofter lighter and softer]] than the rest of her discography. It incorporates many [[AvantGardeMusic avant-garde inst]]. It was deeply influenced by her relationship to her partner at the time, visual/video/performance artist Matthew Barney.

The album was also recorded after Music/{{Bjork}} acted in the TearJerker ''Film/DancerInTheDark'', and released a soundtrack album, ''Selmasongs'', in 2000. Critics have complemented the album on its erotic and intimate lyrics and mood, and Björk herself has said that the album is the complete opposite of the previous record, ''Music/{{Homogenic}}'', as it's an introverted, quiet, wintery record. The album has spawned the singles "Hidden Place", "Pagan Poetry", and "Cocoon".
