* KillTheOnesYouLove: One angel, a childhood friend of Siyun and rumored ex, decides that the key to happiness is becoming a sociopathic CardCarryingVillain. She turns traitor, embracing the SocialDarwinism of the Dragonslayer Empire and killing countless former comrades via her betrayal. She embraces the Ditu Emperor's GodComplex as her ideal so thoroughly, that in the end, she even decides that she is willing to die for him. In the end, her crimes are so great that Siyun feels the need to personally "paint" her, killing her with his own hands. Siyun feels obligated to enact fair justice, but since he isn't actually a psychopath like his enemies, it takes an emotional toll on him.

* AssimilationBackfire: As the first male angel to appear in thousands of years, Siyun's existence opens up a chance for Dragon Empress to revive herself via GrandTheftMe. He turns the tables and ends up absorbing her power, her HiveMind, and by extension, her other assimilated bodies instead.

** The immortals of the cultivation world preach a caste system, where your status is determined by birth, and it is downright sinful for a commoner to have talent of any kind. They teach that those of a lesser station not only can, but ''should'' be treated like livestock, and that anything else is a crime against justice and the heavens. When the Dragonslayer Empire offers to integrate them, they gladly accept the superior beings as their own masters, expecting their heavenly reward, only to be harvested like livestock themselves via LifeDrinking. They only survive because Daxia defeats the Dragonslayer Forces, but even so, they lose all of their strength and position, effectively becoming even lower than those they once treated as slaves.

[[spoiler:It also serves as a distraction to allow Ding Yuan to switch places with Pleiades' First Princess.]]

* GenocideFromTheInside: One alien girl laments that she is the LastOfHerKind, her race having been annihilated by the Dragon Slayer Alliance. After she shows her true colors, she gloats that she was the one who betrayed them to the Dragon Slayer Alliance in the first place.

* GullibleLemmings: Even the most ObviouslyEvil Dragonslayer Alliance officials that openly brag about how much they like to KillThePoor get a decent amount of public support from Daxia citizens.

* KickTheSonOfABitch: While Siyun's way of dealing with assholes is pretty ruthless, it's not as if they don't have it coming.

* AlwaysChaoticEvil: It becomes clear that most of Ditu's soldiers are traitors who defected from Daxia so they wouldn't be bound by things like law, morals or basic human decency. Even their civilians appear to be an entire nation of BloodKnight [[TheSociopath sociopaths]]. Their LackOfEmpathy applies not only to outsiders, but even one another.

* YouWouldntShootMe: Most, if not all, the antagonists force Beyang fleet into a life or death struggle, and when they realize they're on the losing end, taunt that Beyang "wouldn't dare" to finish them off, for fear of backlash. They are all shocked and enraged when, yes, Beyang does indeed follow through on wiping the ones that antagonized them out.

* OurGodsAreDifferent: Venerated beings that have reached the peak of existence, whether via EvolutionaryLevels or via EnlightenmentUperpowers.

** A lot of Daxia citizens think that the Dragonslayer Alliance wouldn't hit civilians, despite the fact that their officials openly brag about it.

* {{Naythiest}}: The Ditu Emperor acknowledges AbusivePrecursors as gods, but is arrogant enough to regard them as mere tools to aid in his conquest.

** Galaxy News may be a heavily biased news source that champions the Dragon Slayer Alliance as if they weren't completely evil, but when one of their reporters hears an average Dragon Slayer Alliance citizen boast about how they don't go to war for silly things like defending the country, but to enjoy massacring people, he is taken aback.
