''Pupa'' is a 2011-2013 horror manga written and illustrated by Sayaka Mogi. It received a very short 2014 anime adaptation by Studio Deen.

* TheSociopath: Shiro, who casually and callously mutilated his son as a child, leading to his kids running away. He didn't care, and after ten years, the first thing he does upon reuniting with them is mutilate Utsutsu ''again''. [[spoiler: As a child he was tortured to the point of insanity by Maria's grandfather, who convinced him that pain was the purest form of love. And he wants to show that love to his son so badly.]]

* AbusiveParents:
** Shiro Onijima is a sadistic bastard who routinely mutilates Utsutsu. But then it's revealed he's very unhinged due to being [[spoiler: abused as a child by Maria's grandfather. And he's deluded into thinking violence is love. He even calls himself a TroubledAbuser in Chapter 24.]]

* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler: Sachiko reaches the DespairEventHorizon after Pupa!Yume impregnates her and is born as a human. The child, Yume, turns out to be a CreepyChild at first. Utsutsu refusing to accept that something was wrong with Yume was the final straw for her, which caused Sachiko to abandon the house.]]

* TheUnfavorite: Sachiko Hasegawa loves her son but hates her daughter. [[spoiler:This is because Pupa!Yume more-or-less raped her to impregnate her with itself. And it imprinted on her son, which provokes the IncestSubtext in the story.]]

* CreepyChild: [[spoiler: Yume as a toddler behaved like a cold and uncaring EldritchAbomination, eating birds and insects and scaring the hell out of Sachiko. She only started behaving more human after interactions with Utsutsu.]]

* AdultFear: [[spoiler: Your child is transformed into an EldritchAbomination and is imprinted to love the CuteMonsterGirl who transformed him. Oh, and when he realizes it, he says to the monster girl that YouAreWorthHell and dissolves into butterflies, dissappearing forever.]]
* BerserkButton: Threaten Yume, and Utsutsu will show you just how alike he is to his father.

* YouAreWorthHell: Through all the events of Pupa, not once do Utsutsu and Yume question their love for one another, or consider abandoning each other. [[spoiler:And by the end, it's clear that they will truly be together forever.]]
