* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: In the anime, Yui figures out that she's in love with Junichi based on [[GreenEyedEpiphany her jealousy over seeing him with Yukana]] and any other girls. In the manga, it takes slow buildup for Yui to figure out her feelings for Junichi. Well after their argument on the rooftop, she continues to think of him as "Doggy" and continues scheming to get him away from Yukana, intending to get her "pet" back. However, the more she fails and the more jealous she becomes of his relationship with Yukana, the more she gets confused and [[WhatIsThisFeeling wonders why she even cares so much]] and why thinking of Junichi makes her think crazy, perverse things. This goes on for a while, until she learns that her stream chat [[EveryoneCanSeeIt already figured out]] that she's completely hung-up on "Doggy". She then decides to confess her love for real, and decides to change herself to be a woman worthy of Junichi.

* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: [[spoiler:Nene sneaks into his house, gets stark naked, and ''straddles'' poor Junichi all in an effort to get him to take her virginity and be with her. Because he's truly faithful to Yukana, he doesn't let her have her way.]]

%%* GyaruGirl: Yukana and Ranko are this. Nene eventually becomes one too to get Junichi's attention. [[spoiler: Yui eventually turns out to be a gyaru streamer called B.o.A., making all four main girls gyaru.]]

* HiddenDepths: Shinpei could've just half-assed his part time job when the cast were saving up for beach cash. That said, he took his job seriously, made assistant manager in quick order, and gave a surprisingly moving speech about making the shop great again.
** The series seems to be making a point of not judging books by their covers. Junichi's friends push him into trying to hook up with Yukana because "[[ReallyGetsAround gals sleep around and give in easily]]", and they think they'd be able to get gals of their own. It swiftly becomes clear that they're totally wrong; Yukana is not just an airheaded bimbo, and is a decent girl that just likes the gal fashion style. The main cast of girls aren't so shallow either.

* PretendToBeBrainwashed: While caught in a bondage trap being flooded with aphrodesiacs, Yui immediately begins making perverse requests of Junichi, despite the fact that Iris was able to resist for several minutes before turning into a drooling sex-addict. This is because Yui is ''already'' a CovertPervert whose fantasies involve being tied up and groped by Junichi. All the trap did was give her the perfect excuse to induldge in it.

* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Yui, in her [=BoA=] guise, constantly brings up her "Doggy" at least once per stream, usually to rant about how he isn't giving her attention or hangs around too many girls. In the manga, a random comment pops up on her stream that says "[=BoA=] likes Doggy", she is upset by it, as she [[ObliviousToLove doesn't understand what gave a viewer that impression]]. The commenter turns out to be her brother Yuki, who is trying to manipulate her into [[LoveConfession confessing her love]] to Junichi, but she remains in denial. Later, when Ranko crashes her livestream and asks her audience what [=BoA=] thinks about "Doggy", the ''entire'' audience unanimously agrees that [=BoA=] is clearly head-over-heels for the guy, even wondering why it was necessary to ask something so obvious. It's this moment that finally [[LoveEpiphany makes Yui realize]] what she truly feels.

** Yui is a {{downplayed|trope}} example; while it's ambiguous exactly how she felt about Junichi, she enjoyed having his attention ever since middle school. The instant that he even starts playing ''slightly'' less attention to her, she becomes incredibly jealous, apparently never even considering the idea that he could move on with his life. As time goes on, it's hinted more and more that she may have always had a crush on Junichi but never recognized it until [[GreenEyedEpiphany he got another girlfriend]].

* DeFactoLeader: Yukana is considered the unofficial "queen" of the Gals in her school, as she is considered the most beautiful and well-liked of them all. This also extends to her immediate group of friends (Junichi, Ranko, Nene, Yui, and Yuki), despite most of them being considered part of Junichi's "harem"...as Yukana is the one lynchpin that brought them all together.

* AdaptedOut: StudentCouncilPresident Iris Kotohayashi plays a minor role in the school culture festival, but she never appears in the OVA which covers that material.

He turns her down as politely as he can, and then she quickly leaps off the deep end, ranting that he's her "dog", that she's his "owner" and that he's supposed to obey her. Junichi is completely baffled by this sudden shift in attitude.

When he tells Yui his plans, she at first tries to hide her true feelings because she's afraid she'd only hurt his feelings or look like she was jealous (which she was, although that wasn't her reason for disliking it). However, she decides to come out and state that she thinks following Yukana into her school just for the sake of their relationship is a terrible idea and that he should give thought to what he truly wants. He's shocked, and Yui quickly leaves out of embarrassment for being so forthright, fearing that Junichi might resent her for it. However, he later thanks her for what she said and says that her words opened his eyes. She starts blushing from the realizing that Junichi took her words so close to heart.

** Nene attempts this twice. Before the series began, she played heavily into the [[LittleSisterHeroine Little Sister]] archetype, because she picked up somewhere that Junichi liked those types of girls in media. As soon as she finds out he's dating Yame, she switches to a GyaruGirl style (but still keeping elements of the "little sister") to get him back. Junichi is too ObliviousToLove to notice either, and the second attempt further fails because Junichi doesn't particularly have a fetish for gals and wound up with Yame as part of a prank.

* EntitledToHaveYou: Having known Junichi since middle school, and having the beauty and demeanor to get him to do anything she wants, Yui enjoyed seeing him as her personal "dog". When he begins dating Yame, she becomes extremely furious that she's no longer (in her mind) the center of his world.

* IdiotBall: After they start dating, Junichi looks forward to making out with Yame, but is too awkward to think of a convincing way to set up an opportunity. Even when Yame herself tries to arrange a study date ''in her bedroom, while her parents are away'', Junichi is quick to invite all of their friends along. It's only after the invitations have already been made and he notices Yame's disappointment that he [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone realizes what he just did]].

** When discussing their post-graduation plans, Yui is [[BrutalHonesty brutally honest]] and tells Junichi that following Yame to her college just to be together is a ''terrible'' idea. She then runs away, terrified that Junichi may hate her or think she just said what she did out of jealousy, when she really ''was'' looking out for his best interests. Later, Junichi seeks her out and tells her that her words opened his eyes, and that he reapplied to a different university...which happens to be the ''same one'' that Yui applied to. She is ''overjoyed'' to realize that she and her beloved Junichi are going to be in the same school together yet again.
* LetUsNeverSpeakOfThisAgain: While visiting a ninja-themed amusement park, Junichi, Yame, Yui and Iris all fall into a trap run by a sadistic, perverse madame. She places Yui and Iris in different bondage-themed traps laced with aphrodesiacs, with Yui in particular hoping to use the traps as an excuse to do dirty things with Junichi. Iris tries to resist, but even she is eventually begging Junichi to [[DoubleEntendre "get her off"]]. They wind up being rescued by Shinbe and find Yame being fed snacks in a comfortable room. As they are leaving the park, an embarrassed Yui and Iris grumble that the three of them will never mention what happened down there again.

* MagneticGirlfriend: PlayedWith. After Yame became his girlfriend, Junichi suddenly gets asked out or propositioned for sex by three separate girls. However, one of them (Ranko) has no real interest in him and only wanted to seduce him to break up his relationship with Yame, one of them (Yui) may have at a tiny crush on him that she didn't realize until [[GreenEyedEpiphany he found another girl]] and one of them (Nene) has been openly pining for him since grade school.

** Ranko has had a crush on Yame for years and was hoping to slowly [[ClosetKey draw her into]] a same-sex relationship. This hope also gets dashed when Yame begins dating Junichi.

** Ranko doesn't understand what Yame could possibly see in Junichi, at first believing that he must be manipulating or using her in some way. She somewhat changes her stance after seeing that he really does care about her.
** Nene's entire basis for believing Junichi would someday become hers was that he was an awkward, unpopular loner who would never find another relationship and thus would make good on their FallbackMarriagePact from their childhood. When he starts dating Yame, she desperately tries to figure out what got the two of them together, even at one point telling Yame that Junichi isn't that great of a catch. Yame turns this around by stating that, of all people, Nene ''surely'' knows what Junichi's good points are and that he's a great guy deep down. This completely crushes Nene's argument.

* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: Yui makes a phone call to the maid cafe owner after objecting to the store manager's selection of erotic reading material for their maid cafe theme of reading to the customers for the day. After speaking to the owner, the manager then tells the girls the book reading theme is canceled for the day.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: When Yui reads a few pages from the ''LightNovel/TheTestamentOfSisterNewDevil'' parody, she gets understandably frustrated and leaves the room Junichi and her friends are in.

* CanonForeigner: Dai Mitarai was created as an anime-only character.

''My First Girlfriend is a Gal'' (はじめてのギャル ''Hajimete no Gal'') is an ongoing manga series by Meguru Ueno, premiering on November 2015; so far, it has already spawned 4 volumes.
