* ThePriceIsRight started as a more relaxed game of price guessing hosted by Bill Cullen in the late 1950's. However, when Mark Goodson decided to produce a revival in the 70's, he decided to re-work the show into a carnival of glitz with elements he scraped from the popular LetsMakeADeal Let's Make a Deal (i.e. plucking contestants from the audience to play mini-games, three giant doors, etc). The revised version, dubbed "The New Price is Right", eventually eclipsed the original in popularity, and still airs to this very day. Most viewers barely even realize that their favorite show has been around much longer than they thought.

Yeah, Gene and Paul founded Rainbow which became Wicked Lester and then, under the names Gene Simmons (his name during the Wicked Lester times was Gene Kline and his real name is Chaim Witz) and Paul Stanley (real name Stanley Eisen) they founded KISS. Both Peter Criss (also not his real name) and Ace Frehley (also not his real first name) were in Wicked Lester and others had been as well.

those don't have spinoffs. MSLN is specifically a spinoff of the 3rd

** This is also true for most anime or manga series which began as visual novels or HGame H games. In a few rare cases, a romance game has been fan translated not long after the anime/manga spinoff is translated. Da Capo is a rare instance where the original H game was professionally translated, but the anime spinoff was only known through fansubs.

Removed Colbert/Daily Show. Both shows went from Global Editions being shown in the UK to full episodes later, though I'm not sure who got full episodes first. In any case, the idea Colbert's more popular in the UK is kind of undone now that he's off the air and The Daily Show's still on.

* TheColbertReport was popular enough to be shown in its entirety (as opposed to just the Global Edition in the UK for a while. Its parent show, TheDailyShow never got this privilege.
** "TheDailyShow" does have more viewers per episode though.
** The More 4 channel have shown all episodes of The Daily Show in their entirety (in addition to the Global Edittion) for several years. I'm not aware of the Colbert Report ever being shown in the UK (full episodes or Global Edittion).

* Savatage was a ProgressiveMetal band that ran from 1978 to 2001, known in particular for their RockOperas. One such album, Dead Winter Dead, featured a song that became a surprise hit: "Christmas Eve / Sarajevo 12/24". Decided to experiment further with the style, they became founding members of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. TSO has became extremely successful for their Christmas themed rock operas, while Savatage is almost forgotten and disbanded to focus on TSO and other projects.

No it wasn't. It was cancelled due to a lack of viewership (admittedly this was before demographics were in mind). It didn't pick up seriously until some time during the 1970s. Is Halo actually a spinoff of Marathon, or just a Spiritual Successor. No idea what the Ninja Gaiden example is getting at. Cool story, but what has that got to do with anything?

* StarTrekTheNextGeneration had to work hard to get out of its predecessor's shadow (the original series was cancelled due to ExecutiveMeddling more than anything else and had had a sequel series planned which ended up being developed into the movies). The first series of TNG was lukewarm at best (and SoBadItsHorrible at worst), sneered at by more purist fans, and yet by the second or third season it was well and truly its own show and went on to be the longest running out of all StarTrek Spin-offs (beating DeepSpaceNine by only two episodes). Whether it's actually more popular is all up for debate.

*** True story: Portland, Oregon was named with the flip of a coin. One of the founders was from Portland, Maine and the other from Boston, Massachusetts and both wished to name the new settlement after their hometown. The coin they used to settle it is now on display in the Oregon Historical Society Museum.
