* ''Literature/TheSunEater'' takes place over 15,000 years in TheFuture. While humanity has generally backtracked a bit from overzealous A.I almost wiping us out, there's still technological progress in certain fields. So humans have FTL travel, [[WeWillUseLasersInTheFuture powerful energy weapons]], exotic materials, advanced genetic engineering and other medical feats and etc. Almost every other alien species in the universe is at best Bronze-Age technology. Even the Cielcin, a space-faring alien species which part of humanity is at war with, are far less advanced and are dependent on outside sources of technology. Only one known species is as advanced or higher than humanity and they went extinct millions of years ago.

* Creator/StephenBaxter's Manifold setting has the Downstreamers, the eventual descendants of humanity in the far future. In the [[Literature/ManifoldTime first book]], they were the most advanced simply due to being [[AbsentAliens the only intelligent species to evolve in the universe]]. So they ended up creating [[TheMultiverse an infinitude]] of other universes, including those that had aliens that more primitive groups of humans could come in contact with.
