* Apparently, being a GirlsLove series is enough for the manga scanlation website MangaFox to slap it with a Mature rating, complete with a "may contain intense violence, blood/gore, sexual content and/or strong language that may not be appropriate for underage viewers, thus is blocked for their protection" disclaimer. This includes series like Ame-iro Kouchakan Kandan, which is a SliceOfLife story about two women running a tea shop. Note that as of this writing, the series doesn't even have a kiss. Yes, that's right, two lesbians blushing, hugging each other and holding each other's hands are enough to be considered as "sexual content".

* •Dan Gainor of the Business and Media Institute wrote an article entitled "Glees Disgusting Gay Teen Sex Romp" in response to a scene where Brittany and Santana are necking on a bed and Santana says that "it's a nice change from all that scissoring". The guy claims it was far too much for a "family friendly" show, and in fact goes so far as to insult Glee's director Ryan Murphy for "spending his days fantasizing about teen girls 'scissoring' on the bed in what the media tell us is a family-friendly show." Not only is this a ridiculous allusion considering Murphy is gay, but this so-called "family friendly" show has also given us scenes such as Finn's ejaculation in a hot tub, the Like A Virgin montage, a flashback to the moments before the conception of Puck and Quinn's baby and the implication of Jacob Ben Israel jacking off to a video of Rachel, just to name a few. And of course, let's not forget that in the very same episode that includes this Brittany and Santana scene entails Brittany picking Artie up out of his wheelchair, throwing him on the very same bed she was kissing Santana on, and climbing on top of him, to which he responds, "am I about to lose my virginity?" Does Dan Gainor think there is any problem with this scene on a family-friendly show? Nope.

* In INowPronounceYouChuckAndLarry, the filmmakers originally planned for the two male leads to kiss there in court, but the censors said no. Instead, they just got extremely close.
** It wasn't that the censors said "no", it was more, "if you do, you'll bump the rating up to R." Unfortunately, in cutting the kiss, they kinda missed the entire point of the movie...

The tendency of MoralGuardians to be harsher toward homosexuality than heterosexuality. In American media, male/female couples can kiss and make out in G-rated movies, but even a slight peck from a same-sex couple is an automatic PG-13, if not an R. And of course, there's no way to include even a tame sex scene without getting an R or NC-17 rating. UnfortunateImplications of this become even more apparent as gay people become more accepted and equal in society.

** Works exactly the same with BoysLove series.
** However, many BoysLove series don't get this treatment, and the ones that do... they sort of need it, as many of them are fairly explicit.

* At one point on Craigslist, the "male seeking male" personals page was marked for adult content (meaning both that it was restricted and that racier posts needn't be flagged), whereas the straight and lesbian personals were kept clean, only the "causal encounters" page being marked. Presumably due to complaints, all personals but "strictly platonic" are now marked adult.

* Canada Customs notoriously plays this trope for the whole country. In addition to hounding gay and lesbian bookstores into poverty by blocking everything from porn to innocuous Heather Has Two Mommies books from ever crossing the border, Canada Customs routinely blocks manga and anime with anything gay in it. One of the worst examples is CardcaptorSakura, where the justification was the LesYay among the underage.
** Hardly a good example. Canada Customs was found to be violating the Charter.
