Cute Monster Girls sometimes create the UnfortunateImplications (especially Type 1) that [[DoubleStandard the males of an intelligent species can look like whatever they want, but the females]] must ''always'' be attractive to male humans (because [[MarsNeedsWomen Men Need Martians]]!). This is '''completely''' in line with the original tabletop lore.

In one of Maribel's dream-excursions to Gensokyo she is attacked by a youkai rabbit which she describes as looking like a monster rather than a girl.
