* In Creator/JamesMichener's Chesapeake, Hiram Cater (who is black) is hitchhiking in the southern US in the late 1960s/ early 1970s and is surprised when a white truck driver stops and gives him a lift. The driver says that he has a son serving in Vietnam, and saw that the way Hiram was standing at "parade rest" on the side of the road made it evident that he had also served in the military. Hiram had served in the Marine Corps in the 1950s.

* Franchise/AssassinsCreed: Up until the 1200's, part of the initiation ceremony for the Assassins Brotherhood was to sever the left ring finger of the novice Assassin. This was done because the hidden blade the Assassins used essentially replaced the ring finger, and not severing it in the initiation ran the risk of the Assassin injuring and exposing themselves in the field as Bayek did. One Assassin Mentor, Altaïr, saw the obvious weakness in having a ritually severed finger and redesigned the hidden blade to work without doing so. Some sects replaced finger severing with branding the Assassin symbol onto the left ring finger, more conservative sects continued severing a finger, some replaced the scars with rings, and some more dropped the practice entirely.

(Just to add to this, Bayek had only severed his finger in the process of getting to a target, and was disturbed when the group he founded started willingly cutting off their fingers. And the only reason Bayek's finger wound up sliced off was because, as VideoGame/AssassinsCreedOdyssey shows, he was wearing his blade the wrong way around.)
