* ''Manga/{{Lady}}'' has a platonic example with Lynn and Sarah Russell. When Lynn shows up to the Marble Mansion for the first time, Sarah refuses to acknowledge her as her little sister. Lynn decides to earn Sarah's friendship by surprising her with some flowers and spends the day in the Russell's garden picking out the prettiest ones. When she gives them to Sarah, Sarah, who at this point is angry that Lynn won't take the hint, smacks them away and causes them to burst all over room. Lynn is so hurt she runs away crying, while Sarah tries to hide her own shame. When Arthur retrieves a fainted Lynn, Lynn once again presents Sarah with the flowers she picked. This time, Sarah accepts.

* A variant in ''Fanfic/MyImmortal''. Hargrid gives Ebony a bouquet of flowers. This enrages her, since they are pink (''“You know I fucking hate the color pink anyway, and I don’t like fucked up preps like you.”''). Seeing her displeasure, Hargrid then casts a spell (by singing Music/MyChemicalRomance lyrics combined with broken Latin) to turn the roses into balls of black fire.

A common situation in rom-coms. Bob has prepared some delicate flowers for his love interest, Alice. He hopes she'll like them, but when he presents them to her - ''WHAM!'' - she destroys them.

It turns out Alice doesn't reciprocate Bob's feelings. Bob may either take the hint and accept she doesn't like him, or come back strong and try to win her again. If done regularly, this can fall into an OverlyLongGag.

In some cases, Alice is a {{tsundere}} who's too bashful to admit she likes Bob, though in most scenarios, Bob is an AbhorrentAdmirer.

This often PlayedForLaughs and the rejected person is AlwaysMale. It's also very common in WesternAnimation where "Bob" is often portrayed as a ButtMonkey.

For a trope involving the rejection of food rather than flowers, see TastesLikeDisdain.
See also FakedGiftAcceptance, where someone would accept the gift of flowers and then wait until the giver was out of sight to destroy them.

Overlaps with FlowersOfRomance, ThatPoorPlant, DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale and GrandRomanticGesture. IllFatedFlowerbed is its sister trope.
