* Literature/TheBible has many examples:
** Near the beginning of the Literature/BookOfGenesis, Cain is exiled for murder, but has children with his previously unmentioned wife. Presumably, this would have to be his sister, though the text doesn't specify.
** At one point, Abraham describes his wife Sarah as being his half-sister, a fact which was never hinted before and is generally Squicky. One Jewish tradition says that she was actually his niece Iscah (still weird to modern standards, but not those of the setting), noting that at one time he refers to his nephew Lot as a "brother."
** Joseph is MadeASlave to a man named Potiphar. Later, after gaining his freedom, he is married to a woman named Asenath, "the daughter of Potipherah." The names are so similar to many assume that they're the same person.
** When listing the grandchildren of Jacob, we hear about the sons of Asher, "and Serach their sister." Aside from Serach being the only granddaughter listed, the odd phrasing led to a Jewish tradition that she wasn't Asher's biological daughter, but a stepdaughter whom he adopted.
** In the New Testament, Jesus was, famously, conceived via miracle from a virgin mother. Many Christians also hold to Mary's perpetual virginity--i.e., she never had sex after Jesus' birth, either. So what to do about the verses that describe Jesus as having four brothers and an unknown number of sisters? According to Catholics, these were extended family, and the words "brothers" and "sisters" shouldn't be taken literally. In Orthodox tradition, they're stepsiblings, St. Joseph having been a widower when he married Mary. Many Protestants, meanwhile, don't hold to Mary's perpetual virginity, so take the verse at face value, that she and Joseph had kids together after Jesus' birth.
