* ''TouhouProject'' had this in effect during and just after ''Mountain of Faith'', when a rival shrine appeared. The heroine, Reimu Hakurei, is a {{miko}} who is jaded, lazy, sharp-tongued, and surrounded by {{youkai}} friends and hangers-on that she was supposed to be exterminating. She's also [[PerpetualPoverty completely broke]] because none of the huamns want to venture into the shrine of a youkai exorcist when the shrine is full of partying youkai. When Sanae arrives, Sanae is an apparently kind and cheerful, if naive, foil to Reimu's DeadpanSnarker personality, and starts gathering all the faith in Gensokyo to [[GodsNeedPrayerBadly empower her goddesses, leaving none for Reimu's shrine]], leading Reimu to drop all [[DesignatedHero pretenses of being noble]], and declaring war on the other goddesses to [[KleptomaniacHero literally steal their faith and worshippers from them]]. Sanae falls out of this trope when she actually becomes a recurring rival of Reimu, however, instead focusing on her FishOutOfWater approach to Gensokyo, where she confuses Nue, a shapeshifter, for a space alien, and wants to abduct it so she can get her picture taken with her.

* In ''JusticeLeagueUnlimited'', CaptainMarvel is this for {{Superman}}, in that by the time Marvel shows up, people no longer hold the same adoration for Superman they once had, and that Marvel is a breath of fresh air. When Marvel and Superman fight (due to [[strike: a misunderstanding[=/=]XanatosGambit)]] Superman being a jackass, Marvel nearly beats Superman due to his magical nature, but ultimately loses.

**** Which is perfectly in line with one of the main themes of the show: "The most important factor on the battlefield is the human one". Basically, Schneizel treated war and peace like a great big chess game, not caring about how many sacrifices were made, whereas Lelouch made a point of trying to keep his followers alive, took their sacrifices very seriously, while still understanding the pragmatism behind them[[hottip:*:Fitting in with the chess motifs, many top-notch chess players will tell you that it's a good strategy to conserve what pieces you can on the board, and that, while pragmatic to make some sacrifices, to not go overboard with doing so.]], and generally [[ThisIsReality treating the issue of the final confrontation with far more seriousness]], resulting in Lelouch pulling off manoeuvres that Schneizel [[TheTapeKnewYouWouldSayThat didn't even consider]]. Arguably, the whole point behind Lelouch's character growth was to showcase how he grew up differently from the rest of his royal siblings, being far more savvy (more-so with his parents) to how the world actually works.

** Interestingly, Luthor has actually justified his hatred of Superman by claiming he is this to ''the entire human race'', and all human achievement pales when compared to the things "the alien" can do ''effortlessly''. Lex has even gone so far as to tell Superman that as soon as he's out of the picture he will solve all of humanity's problems himself, thus proving his superiority to all. However, this is proven as a petty lie after the events of [[FiftyTwo 52]], when Superman was out of commission for a year and Luthor did nothing but be his scheming evil self. Superman points this out himself: "Where's the cancer cure, Lex?"

*** This clearly means that they are better player analogs than Ash will ever be. Paul even uses expert strategies just after the League starts, faces Ash in the finals or semi finals, and beats Ash, however close the battle is.
