That last part isn't a metaphor, by the way; this adolescent cat literally looked at Crowfeather when he was a ''kitten'', "a little gray fuzz ball in [the] [=WindClan=] nursery", and thought 'he's my soulmate'. If Crowfeather's ensuing rejection of Nightcloud's affections are any indication, he found this as creepy as the fic's readers did.

There is a second instance of the trope later on, when [[spoiler:Kate of the Denali sisters forms an instant mating bond with Charlie Swan]], and as in the [[Literature/TheTwilightSaga Twilight]] novels, the Quileute shifters do have imprints, though there are some variations from canon there.
