* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: The intended outcome of the duel Geralt is forced to fight against Tailles. If he refuses, he will be hanged. If he [[ExactWords uses his sword]], not to mention kill Tailles, he will be tortured to death. Instead of letting any of this happen, Geralt quickly parries Tailles wide swing in such a way, the arrogant prick gets his own blade bounced into his face.

Added DiffLines:

* IHaveAFamily: Invoked by Jaskier and then discussed with Cranmer. Jaskier mocks the dwarf for trying to call for mercy when he's the assailant, probably ready to invoke his wife and children next, and thus having moral justification to use violence on random passerby. Cranmer dryly points out that he's a bachelor and, as far as he knows, has never had any kids, but [[JustFollowingOrders an order is an order]], so he has to detain Geralt - by force, if the witcher resists.

Added DiffLines:

* UseTheirOwnWeaponAgainstThem: Due to a whole lot of restrictions on his performance during a sham duel against Tailles, Geralt has to get creative. As he's not allowed to use his own sword against the knight nor harm him, yet still being forced to fight against him and defend himself, the witcher blocks one of the Tailles' attacks in such a way, the young knight hits ''himself'' with his own sword. ''In the face''. The dwarf referee decides it's a fair move, and since Tailles is in no condition to continue, the duel is declared settled, with Geralt set free .

Added DiffLines:

* EvilDetectingDog: Roach is constantly nervous during ''A Grain of Truth''. Geralt initially thinks the mare is simply acting up due to Nivellen's looks and smell, but eventually {{facealm}}s himself after figuring out the real reason, even congratulating the horse on being smarter than him.
