** There is still a 1948 war taking place in Palestine. However, there is a third side, the socialist-led, multiethnic People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine, which ultimately triumphs over Zionist and Arab nationalist forces, [[MeleeATrois who are themselves preoccupied with each other]]. The resulting socialist Palestinian state, however, still has a tense relationship with its neighbors who intervened on behalf of the Arab rightists, even if war hasn't broken out since.

** Even if D. W. Griffith's [[Film/TheBirthOfANation1915 infamous blockbuster]] never comes to be, the Second incarnation of the Ku Klux Klan still arises but now in response to the desegregation of the US Armed Forces during the Great War, the passing of civil rights legislation in 1925 and the more successful American Communist movement. However, its smaller than its OTL counterpart and largely localized to the American South, whereas other organizations like the Silver Legion fill in the vacuum for the American Far Right in the North and West.

** The armed forces of this timeline's Communist China are known as the People's ''Revolutionary'' Army, a nod to the alliance-turned-merger of the CPC with the KMT's Left Wing and consequently its armed wing, the National Revolutionary Army

** The Axis is the obvious villainous example. It gets expanded compared to OTL with the addition of Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, the Spanish State, Sweden, Turkey and Iraq.

* AlliterativeTitle: The franchise ''Commander Columbia'' has some alliterative titles, the title of the franshise itself and the subtitles of some entries: ''Transamurian Troubles'' and ''Alaskan Avenger''.

* SlidingScaleOfAlternateHistoryPlausibility: Started out with a Type IV and slowly moved until it became a Type II. More specifically, every single [=PoD=] that could help the American socialist movement (no early splits, progressivism strangled in the crib, early participation in the First World War radicalizing the troops) occurs. Also, after the Russian Revolution, the Socialist Labor Party doesn't split between reformists and revolutionaries.

* KickTheDog: The execution of a bisexual man and his lover by firing squad after a blabantly rigged trial under Integralist Brazil's "deviancy laws".

** The Spanish Civil War is one for the Comintern and the Axis.

*** The Indochina War.
*** The Indonesian War (1979-1994).
*** The Congo War (1980s).

* ContinuitySnarl: One entry mentioning Jacques Doriot describes him as the general secretary of the SFIC, implying he was never expelled from the party like OTL and thus remained a Communist. However, a later entry explains he followed a fate similar to OTL, becoming a fascist leader after being expelled from the SFIC.

* DidYouActuallyBelieve: In the historical miniseries ''Vanguard'', Theodore Roosevelt, Robert Taft and Orland Loomis go to confront Earl Browder over the Communists' decision to scrap the US constitution and form a new socialist republic instead of keeping to the agreement that they would be fighting to restore the Constitution and nothing more. In response Floyd Olson points out their profession is politics and therefore lies while Browder expresses surprise it took them this long to realize they would do it and presents the order as a simple recognition of the political reality of the situation.

** Likewise, UsefulNotes/FranklinDRoosevelt never becomes president, he serves as Assistant Secretary of the Navy in the 1910s like he did IOTL, becomes Chairman of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party from 1936 and People's Secretary for Foreign Trade in 1938.
** Same for UsefulNotes/HarrySTruman, who first gains fame for defecting from the White Army at the start of the Putsch and forming the Minutemen, a paramilitary wing for the DFLP, fighting with distinction alongside the Red Army during the Second American Civil War. After the war he enters politics and becomes Party Leader of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party in 1937, successfully modernizing the party and keeping it relevant, Deputy Premier during WWII and General Secretary after it.

** ''{{Franchise/Batman}}'''s first story in ComicBook/DetectiveComicsNumber27 features him investigating the "Clan of the Cross" instead of fighting a "Chemical Syndicate".

** Creator/JRRTolkien's seminal works, ''Literature/TheHobbit'' and ''Literature/TheLordOfTheRings'', still exist in the form they had in OTL (largely as in exercise in exploring the limitations of historical materialism), and both become literary breakouts that come to define the modern Fantasy genre, as well as being a huge influence on {{Tabletop RPG}}s, even gaining a sizeable fanbase in Red America. The main difference is that ''Lord of the Rings'' is published as a sextology (using the internal divisions of each of the three OTL books, which was one of the proposed publishing methods before going with the trilogy). While Creator/RalphBakshi and Creator/PeterJackson both still adapt ''The Lord of the Rings'' into film, the adaptations are slightly different. [[WesternAnimation/TheLordOfTheRings Bakshi's adaptation]] is of all six books, instead of just the first two OTL, and he manages to complete it. [[Film/LordoftheRings Jackson's adaptation]] is an international co-production, involving film crews from both capitalist and communist nations, and also a sextology, rather than a trilogy, which he and his collaborators put together for the better part of a decade, winning numerous awards in the process, and eventually capping off their work with ''The Return of the King'' in 2009, which goes on to be the highest grossing international film of all time.

** The ''Franchise/StarWars'' saga begins with ''Film/ThePhantomMenace'' as the first film made instead of ''Film/ANewHope''.

*** ''Oceania Forever!'': the biggest [[EvilReactionary far-right]] party in Australasia, formed in 1980 following the outbreak of the Indonesian war. [=OF=] are a party of xenophobic [[WarHawk war hawks]] who are [[RightWingMilitiaFanatic a little too eager]] [[NukeEm to use nuclear bombs]] at best and [[ANaziByAnyOtherName fascist terrorists]] allowed to sit in parliament at worst. They constantly push for increases in military spending way beyond what's economically feasible for the country. Perhaps their most horrifying proposal is the Red-Cleanser Bill that would would allow the state to execute every Anarchist and Communist for treason without trial.

*** ''Green-Progressive Party of Oceania'': a coalition of the ''Australasian Greens'' and the ''Australasian Progressive Party'', both of whom split from the right wing of the [=ASCI=] following its banning at the beginning of the Indonesian war based on the issue of climate change and not being unable to make any significant change. They are the 3rd and 4th biggest parties in Australasia (respectively), and make up the largest left-wing bloc in the country.

*** ''Australasian Section of the Communist International'': the official wing of the Comintern in Australasia. Following their ban in 1979 after supporting Nusantara in the Indonesian war, the party bled most of its membership from a combination of the ban and other factors. [[DespairEventHorizon This caused the ASCI to spiral into a borderline-reactionary stance of]] [[DirtyCommies Bolshevik-Leninism]], claiming to be "[[NoTrueScotsman the only real communists]]" and begin fading into obscurity.

** Korea is better known as Chosun after World War II.

* WorldWarIII: Much like the Cold War of OTL, this becomes a much feared possibility in the Post-WWII world, and indeed it comes close to happening several times. The 1980s, which was a period marked by tensions between the Communist and Capitalist blocs being at their highest, have been referred to in-universe as the "Long Eighties" and even "World War III".

** The Associated Union Republics[[labelnote:Including]]Puerto Rico, Haiti, Quisqueya/ex-Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Panama[[/labelnote]] of the UASR keep this status willingly and could opt out if they wanted to.

*** Instead of ''Film/WerewolfOfLondon'', an adaptation of Guy Endore's 1933 novel ''Werewolf of Paris'' is made, directed by Creator/EdwardDmytryk (instead of Guy Endore) and starring Lon Chaney alongside his son [[Creator/LonChaneyJr Creighton Chaney]].

*** Creator/SergioLeone directs a ''[[Film/FlashGordon1980 Flash Gordon]]'' movie adaptation.

** ''{{ComicBook/WonderWoman}}'' is called ''Suprema'' ITTL.

** Creator/GeneRoddenberry still creates and manages to turn ''Franchise/StarTrek'' into a lasting multi-media franchise. The main differences being that Gene is already able to get ''[[Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries The Original Series]]'' off the ground in the autumn of 1964 (resulting in the show lasting for four seasons and a total of 81 episodes), that the character of Captain Kirk is a bisexual woman (being Gillian T. Kirk rather than James T. Kirk) and is played by none other than ''Creator/MarilynMonroe'' (though in this timeline she still goes under her old name of Norma Jeane Baker), and that Bones is a Russian rather than an American (this also results in the character of Scotty not being invented until the second season, working as an analogue for Chekov in that he represents a European nationality). But in the end, even with the changes in timelines, Gene is still Gene, with WartsAndAll, and some of his more infamous and ill-advised story ideas and views on women and sexuality still ultimately makes it onto screen, with roughly the same results as in OTL; being seen as somewhat problematic elements of an otherwise beloved and famously progressive show.
** ''Film/LawrenceOfArabia'' gets an unofficial sequel named ''Intifada'', a British-Palestinian movie where Creator/PeterOToole reprises his role. The films is based partially on T.E. Lawrence advising the Palestinian resistance to the Italian occupation, and is a deconstruction of the myth the real man projected to the end of his life. Creator/RogerEbert called it ''"Lawrence of Jerusalem"''.

*** The same happens to movie studios, for the most part renamed after the name of the street the studio is on[[labelnote:List]]MGM/RKO becomes Culver City Collective, Fox Films becomes Pico Boulevard Collective, Terrytoons becomes North Avenue Animation, Warner Bros becomes Olive Avenue Collective and its animation division becomes Termite Terrace Collective, Universal becomes Lankershim Collective, Paramount Pictures becomes Melrose Avenue Collective and the Mack Sennett studios become Radford Avenue Collective[[/labelnote]] while some exiled executives restart them under the same names.

*** The National Geographic Society is renamed to People's Geographic Society a year after the end of the Civil War and is otherwise left alone.

* MistakenForSpies: Morris Rubenstein writes a science-fiction story in 1943 about a world socialist government creating nuclear weapons to scare into submission an hostile alien empire but resulting in the destruction of the universe from how many they used. The story caused an investigation by the Public Safety, who put Rubenstein in detention, because of the accuracy with which he noted the production of the weapon and the parallels between it and the ongoing effort to create a nuclear bomb although he only used publicly available, pre-war material. After ascertaining that he had gotten the information from public sources, the State Sec released Morris, and got assurances from the editor that no stories involving nuclear technology would be published for the remainder of the war.

* MyCountryRightOrWrong: Some Russian and American White emigres pledge their support to the UASR and the Soviet Union against the Axis despite their opposition to communism because they want to defend their homeland from fascism, even if it is under a government they despise and fought against not so long ago. Among them are heir to the Russian throne and unofficial leader of the Russian Whites Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich, and General Pyotr Wrangel. The White Americans Adlai Stevenson, Dean Acheson and Nelson Rockefeller form the Patriae Society to organizee this support, and are later joined by Theodore Bilbo (KKK member and former governor of Mississippi) and Barry Goldwater.

** Park Rangers who initially remained neutral during the Second Civil War ended up siding with the Reds when the Whites began to create forest fires and plant mines in the parks.

** During the Second American War, many of the Communist revolutionaries choose to operate under one, most commonly to avoid reprisals against their families. Following the war, many of these men and women choose to fully adopt their nom de guerre as their legal name, to symbolise the new beginning the revolution has brought with it. Recurring characters Marius Victor Gracchus and Sean Cinnéide (neé John F. Kennedy) are both prominent examples.

*** It is implied and outright stated in the ''World At War'' episode transcript that his true identity is Cristiano Boaventura, who used "The Green Devil" as a pseudonym and was molysmophobic, insisting on concealing his face with a gas mask and his hands when meeting other people.

** [[Franchise/UniversalHorror The Universal Monsters franchise]] (OTL 1923-1960) are known as The Lankershim Monsters (ITTL 1921-1968) since the Universal studios are renamed to Lankershirm Collective after the revolution.

** Post-Civil War architecture sees modernism and constructivism become greatly influential, DFLP-dominated areas prefer the Vienna Secession style while the ASRs are mostly influenced by neoclassicism and classicism.

** ''Theatre/Assassins'' is expectedly different from OTL but otherwise has the same premise of a musical about assassins from American history.

*** Sergio Leone directs a ''[[Film/FlashGordon1980 Flash Gordon]]'' movie adaptation.

** Much like the Battle of Stalingrad IOTL, the Battle of Moscow in 1941 becomes a defining moment of World War II as it ultimately ends in a humiliating defeat for the up-until-that-point advancing Wehrmacht. Despite mustering up a truly massive force to take the city, the combined American and Soviet forces not only manage to hold their ground, but even pull off a massive counterattack in the immediate aftermath, that sends the Axis forces into a mad dash retreat for hundreds of kilometers. It is the moment that completely breaks any illusion the Nazis, and by extension the Axis, might have had of invulnerability, and marks the beginning of the end of their attempt to TakeOverTheWorld.

* RisingEmpire: UsefulNotes/ImperialGermany becomes an even more prominent example of this trope than IRL, since it also aggressively pursues imperialistic goals in Latin America, causing the old US to grow more vigilant towards the Kaiserreich and strengthen its alliance with the British Empire.

* ActionPolitician: Tom Lawson is a decorated war veteran and first man in space who becomes a People's Alliance politician pushing environmental policies later in life.

** This timeline's equivalent of ''Theatre/{{Hamilton}}'' is a biographical musical about Emma Goldman, with several of the same actors from OTL's ''Hamilton'', written by [[GenderFlip Lenina]] [[Creator/LinManuelMiranda Miranda]].

** Harry Truman was a veteran of World War I in OTL, but in ''Reds!'' he also becomes a renown [[WarHero war hero]] by leading his Minutemen against the National Salvation Front regime during the Second American Civil War.

*** Notably Italy develops a powerful fleet which jointly with the French State dominates the Mediterranean Sea early in the war. It also doesn't develop the same reputation as TheLoad it is sometimes attributed in popular consciousness.

** UsefulNotes/RichardNixon eventually becomes head of government of the UASR.

** UsefulNotes/MaoZedong tries, but never really manages to make a breakthrough as a political leader in the Chinese Communist Party. In fact, some of his political views eventually result in his excommunication from the party's middle management. Instead, he becomes increasingly interested in the trade of writing, and becomes a famous and influential poet and playwright. By the time of his death in 1976, he has published over thirty books, including poetry, plays, and essays on socialism and politics, and his autobiography which numbered four volumes. He later gets readmitted into the party and achieves fame, not as a Chinese leader, but within the body of the Communist International following his election to the top office in the late 50s, serving as the Commissar Prime of the Executive Committee of the Comintern and thus the de jure leader of the Communist world until his retirement later in the sixties.

** While Albert Speer is primarily a non-factor in this story with his role in the Nazi War effort being taken over by Henry Ford, and Henry Ford himself would be eventually executed for his crimes rather than be allowed to escape justice, Speer's role as a postwar figure associated with the Axis that both escaped justice and created a myth using their memoirs whitewashing their postwar conduct and their own commitment to Fascist ideology would be filled by UsefulNotes/FranciscoFranco, whom writes multiple memoirs painting himself as a moderate and apolitical officer appalled by the conduct of Jose Sanjurjo and Emilio Mola and whitewashing his support of Sanjurjo's coup and his own participation in Falangist atrocities.

* DisasterDemocracy: The UASR is born from the ashes of the USA during the Second American Civil War.

** Miss Teri loves superhero comics [[note]]UsefulNotes/TheBronzeAgeOfComicBooks being her favorite[[/note]] and classic sci-fi, so her pop culture contributions commonly explore how those genres have evolved.

* Bookends: The Prologue and the last entry of Part I, ''The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized'', both feature the character of Marius Gracchus thinking/talking about the new world birthed by the Red May Revolution in which he firmly believes.

*** A rival adaptation is made in Americuba by Creator/WarnerBros and [[Creator/ColumbiaPictures Columbia]], taking elements from later books and having a more straight-forward approach.
