* Darth Maul may be a brutal sadist who slaughters innocent people, but you can't help but feel for him when he's left a broken, psychotic wreck, especially since he was trained as Sith from birth, was [[Film/ThePhantomMenace cut in half by Obi-Wan]], and spent twelve years tormenting on a LandfillBeyondTheStars. [[spoiler:Maul is then helpless to prevent his brother Savage from being killed and he himself is tortured by Darth Sidious. Then in ''[[ComicBook/DarthMaulSonOfDathomir Son of Dathomir]]'', he helplessly watches as his own mother (Talzin) perform a HeroicSacrifice to give him a chance to escape.]]

* [[spoiler:Barriss Offee. She is a young Padawan learner who is put through several traumas during the course of the war: almost dying, being mind-controlled to the point where she ''wishes'' she was dead, only to come to the awful realization that the war is unjust and that the Republic and Jedi Order have become corrupted. While this doesn't excuse her resorting to terrorism to make a point, it certainly makes her more understandable and sympathetic.]]

* Boba Fett. He [[Film/AttackOfTheClones watched his father Jango Fett]] get [[OffWithHisHead decapitated]] by Mace Windu and sought [[YouKilledMyFather revenge for his father's death.]] [[spoiler:Even worse, he ends up in a Republic prison for his troubles at a young age.]]

* Dogma, who was fanatically backing every one of General Krell's orders [[YesMan to the point of sycophancy]], becomes one at the end of the Umbara arc. He just wanted to be a good soldier, but as a mere rookie at the time of the Republic’s campaign on Umbara, [[spoiler:he was unknowingly played by a manipulative and treacherous Jedi General. Once he finds out the cold truth, he is a very broken man and he gets taken into custody for his complicity in Krell's subterfuge even after putting the bullet in him at the end.]]

* Savage Opress. He gave himself up to Ventress to protect his brother Feral, only to be [[spoiler:forced to kill Feral while under the Nightsisters' control.]] And this is ''after'' being mutated into a hulking monster by their magics. Savage then spends part of the Nightsisters and Brothers arc being trained (read as: [[ElectricTorture tortured]]) by Dooku, constantly berated by Dooku and Ventress, thrashed around by two more skilled and experienced warriors, and repeatedly shot by Separatist droids in addition to ending up with almost everyone against him with very little hope of being able to fight off all of his enemies. To top it all off, he's ''still'' being manipulated by Mother Talzin and he doesn't even realize it. Even when he's reunited with his only surviving brother, Darth Maul, he's still not treated well and is only used for muscle. [[spoiler:Savage's [[AlasPoorVillain death]] only serves to solidify this status. Savage isn't even concerned about his own death; his only regret is that he was an unworthy apprentice to his brother.]]
