As stated by Ken Sugimori: "At one time, the protagonist would fight as well. But then we asked ourselves "If you can fight on your own, what's the point of having Pokémon?" Now, with the advent of ''VideoGame/{{Palworld}}'' over twenty years later, the protagonist is more or less ''mandated'' to actively participate in the battles with everything from wooden clubs to rocket launchers.

* The concept of Crystal Pokémon, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin crystalline]] Pokémon that can change their type at will, is extremely similar to Terastallization from ''VideoGame/PokemonScarletAndViolet'' despite existing decades prior. After the release of that game came the release of Terastallized Pokémon cards, which themselves are crystalline and have unique typing and energy mechanics, bringing it full circle.

* The game's Community Day event features an exclusive Elite move for the featured Pokémon (the starters would get Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn or Hydro Cannon, for example) among other bonuses. Maybe if Bansheep looked like Eevee, this would fit, but this is a meme and a stretch.

* Many fans have joked that the reason Eevee has never received a Ghost-type evolution is that this would imply Eevee dies. In ''VideoGame/CassetteBeasts'', when one of the [[StarterMon Starter Mons]], Bansheep, is remastered (that game's version of evolution), they actually die and become either a zombie (Zombleat, then Capricorpse) or a ghost (Wooltergeist, then Ramtasm).

** Special Episode 1, Bidoof's Wish, ends with Bidoof taking on Jirachi and winning. Oddly prophetic of Bidoof gaining access to the ability Moody in gen V, allowing it to accumulate stat boosts and potentially overpower Legendaries if it can stay on the field long enough.

It becomes even more impressive as of ''VideoGame/PokemonXAndY'', which makes Wigglytuff a Fairy-type and thus particularly weak against the Poison-type attacks that constitute Team Skull's primary offense.
