** While playing the "This is the biggest secret I've never told anyone" game, Elphaba says "My father hates me." Galinda's resulting gasp is PlayedForLaughs...but chances are pretty good that her reaction is born out of the idea that she's from a loving (if indulgent) family and the idea that anyone's parent could hate them is foreign. In other words, Galinda is capable of loving and does love.

* Despite only having one scene together, Elphaba and Dillamond's relationship is this. After the "Animals should be seen and not heard" moment, Elphaba stays behind to help Dillamond clean up and even offers him the paper her sandwich is wrapped in, which he accepts. In "Something Bad", Elphaba looks concerned when Dillamond bleats twice and tries to reassure him that the Wizard will surely help them if he knew what was going on. These are two outcasts who have found and support each other. A lot of actors playing Elphaba and Dillamond go with the interpretation that the Wizard might be her biological father and Frexspar the man who raised her but she considers Dillamond her father figure and he cares for her in turn.
