* It's only for a short time, but when a German officer commands the horsemaster to use Topthorn (whom he named King) to pull up one of the machines. The horsemaster pleads with him, saying he is overworked, and offers Joey who he knows is in better health. Though it takes no words, it's obvious that as Joey pulls up the machine he is giving his all for Topthorn. After things become dire, the horsemaster stays behind for a bit as the others flee just to tell his horses to run.

* In no man's land, the British soldier manages to reach Joey without getting shot. When he realises he has no cutters, a German soldiers comes foward to help. When they realise they need more than one cutters, various German soldiers toss over theirs to help.
