* The entire situation is ludicrous. The start of the Dodgers series, which in movie time is Henry's third game, the announcer says the Cubs are 3 games behind the Mets for the division lead, meaning they were only 5 back for Henry's first game. There is no way that a team that close in September would be having trouble filling the stadium. Also, in Henry's first two games, the Cubs are ahead when he comes in, in the ninth inning both times, but the crowd is booing like the Cubs are getting blown out. In the first game, at least, the starter, Chet, is still pitching, so he had to have been doing very well until then.

** Henry's second game apparently marks the first time the Cubs have won consecutive games all season, and it's the middle of August. There's no way a team like that would suddenly be only three games out of first place a month later. In fact, they would be well out of playoff contention.
* In one sequence of events, it's implied that Henry goes to school, works on the boat, goes to practice and plays a game on the same day. Must have been a 48-hour day.

** Since this was for the division championship, there would still be the NLCS against the West Division Champions (the Atlanta Braves in the real world, but the real NL East Champs were the Phillies that year). Also, if for some reason there was no NLCS, there would be at least 4 games in the World Series, if it's a sweep, so Chet would likely pitch at least one game, if he were able.

* How is Martinella going to save Chet for the playoffs when they are already playing for the division championship? It is literally the last game of the playoffs before the World Series.

*** Desperate times (such as almost losing the team to foreclosure) call for desperate measures. And publicity stunts.

** Not to mention a world without the Minor Leagues. No matter how talented the prospect, ''no'' Major League team would put a player in the field that had never played a game of professional ball — in any league and at any level — in his life.

* Apparently, this movie takes place InAWorld where Major League Baseball teams have only one relief pitcher.
