* In ''Night Train to Rigel'', why does the Modhri (through Applegate) ''threaten'' to make Bayta join unless Crompton tells him where the base is instead of just scratching her and then moving on to try to get Crompton too? His goal is to suppress what Crompton knows, and taking Crompton out through making him join or killing him does just that. Sure, Bayta and probably Crompton too would have probably killed themselves before they could be controlled, but that outcome is still a win for the Modhri.
