** The player is supposed to be a young adult. Not everyone starts their League Challenge at age 10-11 (most obvious with the Black/White protags seeming older than most games, plus the existence of a trainer school), so the implication is probably that your character finished school, then saw an ad or whatever about "Hey, come challenge the league in THIS region, we have far more gym leaders than everyone else!" Many people choose to go far away when they finish school (moving halfway across the country, or even to another country, for college, for example), so why not your character, too? And, well, as the Champ, Ame is very invested in new trainers starting their League Challenge, and since there's far fewer than normal, she also has the time to meet you personally.

Given that Reborn is a WretchedHive when you arrived and lots of citizens are leaving, getting new people to come and live in the Reborn Region would likely be a major benefit of helping you.
