** The point of the ruse was to ''not'' hurt Mr Bean's feelings. If they'd sneaked away while he was in the kitchen or outright told him that they wanted to leave then he'd have realised that they weren't enjoying his party and that he was a boring host. By putting the clock forward they allowed him to think that they were leaving because they were genuinely tired and they'd celebrated the new year. They obviously didn't anticipate him being woken up at midnight by the other party and realising what they'd done.

* I Wonder how British non-confrontational can be. Bean goes to Hospital and acts crude towards a bandaged woman. Why don't people say anything ? (Besides the fact two people fight also).

** Most people probably weren't aware of what he was doing. People wouldn't have been watching him the whole time and, even if they saw him moving around teasing the woman, it wouldn't have been clear without being able to see a close up view of their faces that that's what he was doing (and the others in the room wouldn't have the same view the audience did). Given how unlikely it is for a normal human being to do what Bean did, they may have assumed that he had a movement disorder or that he knew the woman and it was a joke between friends. Either way, it wouldn't be obvious to them that there was anything for them to confront him about, and certainly not to the degree where it would be worth jumping up and making a fuss in the relatively short time period he spent doing it.

** British people are stereotypically non-confrontational. They don't want to "make a fuss."

* The Hospital sketch is one of the worst. I read British are non-confrontational, but they let Bean be crude towards a damaged patient, and never intervene while seeing two men fighting. And Bean is the most selfish ever in this episode, having fun with a crippled woman.
* Also, i wonder why a full body cast is waiting, since she should be a priority (the hospital does not seem very agitated).

** Perhaps they were afraid he might come after them, having already seen what he was capable of.

** Mr. Bean is a blithe spirit, even if he is childish. She may find that attractive, even if she's put off by his immaturity and thoughtlessness.

* I could never understand the motivation behind Mr. Bean's [[WithFriendsLikeThese friends]] moving the clock forward in the New Year episode just so they could have an excuse to bail out of his boring "party". I could see why they didn't have the guts to just go ahead and say to his face "Look Bean, we're not interested in celebrating with you anymore, have fun with your teddy bear and Marmite twigs, we're going to that party next door", but wouldn't it be easier to just quietly sneak out while he was in the kitchen, without the whole ruse? It would still be rude on their part, but at least they wouldn't trick Bean into thinking it was past midnight, which only ruined his New Year's Eve because he was already in bed while everyone else was actually celebrating.

* You have to wonder what Irma Gobb sees in Mr. Bean and why she agrees to go out with him. She's clearly embarrassed by his antics at the magic show and seemingly leaves him for another guy that same night. A few episodes later, they're inexplicably back together and she even wants him to buy an engagement ring! Then again, anyone who wants to be married to Mr. Bean must not be entirely right in the head so maybe they're not such a mismatched couple after all.
