A planet is huge and I doubt the locals can cross the entire planet in a few minutes. Why did the Earth attack possibly the only settlement on the planet? It would be easier to go to the other side of the planet and start terraforming it from there. At least pick an area that is uninhabited. That would create a barrier to travel for the natives while safe guarding the area in question.
