* AntiClimax - One of the series' calling cards as a DeconstructiveParody on shounen fighting series. The manga actually competes with EightBitTheater for setting up epic confrontations or problems which are solved by utterly mundane solutions.

* BlandNameProduct: As a show full of {{Shout Out}}s, this isn't unexpected. Examples are [[{{Sony}} 'Pony']] televisions and 'Seako' clocks.

** Being a Love Comedy, most of the girls' affections are PlayedForLaughs throughout the manga. The ones to consistently have their feelings taken more seriously are Nagi (who goes long stretches without serious development due to her confidence that Hayate already loves her), Athena (Hayate's ex-girlfriend [[spoiler: who he still holds feelings for, although she has had next to no romantic development for 250 chapters after the Greece Arc ended), and Hinagiku (who has had much CharacterDevelopment from her long-running romance arc, although it dips into LoveHurts at times and she worries she's trapped in the "Comedy" side of "Love Comedy").

** By Chapter 500, this might just be turning into a SupportingHarem after 10+ years. The main LoveTriangle seems to be [[spoiler: Hinagiku x Hayate x Nagi]]. Most of the other LoveInterests seem to be more and more just acting as supporting characters, and recent chapters have only really given focus to [[spoiler: Hinagiku's and Nagi's feelings]]. What could tip the situation into a SupportingHarem would be [[spoiler: Hinagiku receiving heavy focus on her feelings, and more moments with Hayate that don't end in a punchline. It has also been explicitly stated that there is a "bomb" between Hayate and Nagi as they lack "love". Hayate paying off his debt and telling Nagi that he will stay on as her butler has put a timer on the bomb as Nagi believes Hayate truly loves her, Hinagiku has been wondering if her feelings will ever reach Hayate and has just seen him

Recent chapters have focused almost exclusively on their feelings and it has been explicitly stated that there is a "bomb" between Hayate and Nagi as they lack something...that something being "love". Meanwhile Hayate has made it clear that he would find it a "dream come true" if Hinagiku actually loved him and Hina got the impression that the debt was the only reason Hayate was putting off romance
* BarehandedBladeBlock: During their 'duel', Hayate stops Wataru's sword with two ''fingers'' almost offhandedly and tosses it aside.

* BalancedHarem: The manga is really good about making any feelings on Hayate's part pretty much unknown while focusing on the feelings of several of the girls. The three to be featured the most prominently in a romantic light are Maria, Hinagiku, and Athena...which makes sense since those three are his 'type'.
** That said, Hinagiku and Athena have received much more dramatic and seriously-played romance which is also integral to their CharacterDevelopment. It's not that the others aren't considered to have real and strong feelings for Hayate, but these two have the most real and serious consequences for said feelings; played more to the 'love' side of the Love comedy if you will. It helps that Hayate has displayed attraction and affection towards them, even [[spoiler: realizing he has been in love with Athena since 10 years ago, though she turned him down at the time for Nagi's sake]]. They're definitely front runners but this is by no means a done deal.

* AbsurdlyHighStakesGame: The finale of the Haukou Academy Class Trip Level 5 arc, naturally taking place in Las Vegas. A grand prize of 150 Million Yen up for grabs with the final participants. The game? Reverse Old Maid. A game that comes down to pure luck, so the 'normal' students would have a chance against our main competitors. The trick? [[spoiler: Hayate himself picked the game because in Old Maid the unluckiest person draws the Joker, but in Reverse Old Maid this is actually a good thing and the only way he can beat Hina's skill and incredible luck]]. This being the series that it is, the game swiftly spirals into an absurd game of [[spoiler: everyone trying to prove how unlucky they are to draw the Joker]]. As expected, the final draw was between [[spoiler: Hayate and Hinagiku]]. The draw? [[spoiler: "The guy I love doesn't notice my feelings." It wasn't enough]].

* CanonImmigrant: It looks like the Serpent [[NorseMythology Midgardzolom]] that was the BigBad in the {{anime}} is the alternate form of [[spoiler:Athena's butler Machina.]]

* ActorAllusion: Creator/JunFukuyama as a [[MyHeroZero masked]] [[MagnificentBastard butler]] with a [[CodeGeass suspiciously familiar power]]... (He doesn't get to talk to [[NorioWakamoto the Narrator]] though) Also looked like Watanuki from XXXholic, another of Jun's roles.

** the Grade-Skippers (Nagi, Isumi, and Wataru - who got in only because Sakuya gave up her spot for him).

** And let's not forget the [[BloodKnight psychotically]] HotBlooded redhead Combat Butler voiced by Creator/NobuyukiHiyama, Guy in ''Anime/GaoGaiGar'' (as well as Viral in ''TengenToppaGurrenLagann'', probably responsible for his pointy teeth).
** For that matter, another rather HotBlooded butler, ''very'' intent on teaching his ButtMonkey master how to be properly manly, is voiced by Creator/KatsuyukiKonishi (that would be [[TengenToppaGurrenLagann Kamina]]).

** One of the chapter (which is made after the show has been made) has Hayate mentions that the voice of a character in Sentai costume (which is really Hinagiku) being similar to [[TengenToppaGurrenLagann Boota]] which is also voiced by Creator/ShizukaIto.

** [[DetectiveConan Conan Edogawa]] is cameoed all over the place, usually in the form of conspicuously-placed busts, but got an entire manga chapter (#108) devoted to him.

* DrivesLikeCrazy: On the way to Kyoto, Nagi meets Dr. Kurosu, a traveling doctors who likens herself to BlackJack and drives a Lamborghini. At 300 kilometers per hour. When Nagi obviously flips out, Kurosu waves it off, saying that if they got into an accident then she'd just patch Nagi up afterward. This doesn't exactly make Nagi feel any better.

* BackAlleyDoctor: In chapter 404, the mysterious woman who gives Nagi a lift (in a Lamborghini no less) while she was lost in Hokkaido reveals that she is a traveling doctor. And then calls herself "a modern day BlackJack". We've yet to see any demonstration of her skill, but she was confident that she could treat Nagi if they had gotten into an accident. For reference, they were driving at [[DrivesLikeCrazy 300 kilometers an hour]]. She also claimed to only treat patients she takes a liking to and then states that as a doctor she'll treat anyone who needs her, so she's probably pretty ethical at least.

** One of the chapter (which is made after the show has been made) has Hayate mentions that the voice of a character in Sentai costume (which is really Hinagiku) being simmilar to [[TengenToppaGurrenLagann Boota]] which is also voiced by Creator/ShizukaIto.

** In chapter 408, Machina, [[spoiler:Athena's new butler]] hides at Sakuya's place and makes her flip off, when he says, after eating several large portios of meal, that he actually wanted to eat [[TrademarkFavoriteFood hamburgers]]. At one point he also states that his stomach is a black hole.
