* For the punishment to be effective, Claire would have to be made to forget that she's really [[spoiler: Duke Desmond]] - otherwise, once it's clear what happens, how and why, the fear and suffering will actually give way to apathy and resigning (or a suicide, though whether it's possible in this setting is debatable).

* So how did the original murder take place? [[spoiler: My guess is: It probably happened the same way as during the first loop, but in the afternoon, not in the morning (that explains why Claire's mom wasn't at home during the murder and why Jimmy was already at work), so Duke must have picked Claire up after the school. Since in all three loops the murder takes place in the basement of Claire's house, it must be where it really happened. Then he drives the car with two bodies inside to the abandoned field and buries them. Claire probably had dropped her earring at home which made subsequent identification possible despite severe face mutilation. And somebody must have seen Duke either digging the graves or driving up to Claire's house, otherwise it's unlikely that the police would try to arrest him so soon without any real evidence.]]
