And according to the lore, only Nightmare Dream Eaters are around the sleeping worlds causing darkness, meaning that when the world was eaten by the darkness; all of the Coachman's Goons returned back to the Realm of Darkness, meaning that until the world was restored, they couldn't enter at anyway to aid the Coachman with his schemes.

The only Dark-affinity move Sora can use is Shadowbreaker, which attacks with both Light AND Dark (Conversely, Shadowbreaker is the only Light-affinity move Riku can use). Also he relies heavily on his friends/allies in combat and for emotional support. On the other hand, Riku has been dealing with Darkness since day one, first as it's pawn and then learning to master the Darkness based abilities that were his consolation prize for breaking free.
