* When the Meekrob appear before Dib, they initially look like aliens before inexplicably become shoes, when Dib points this out they aggressively insist that he always saw them as shoes. [[spoiler: This was likely because of some glitch in the matrix replacing actual images of Meekrobs with tennis-shoes which Zim wasn't able to fix before Dib noticed.]]

* When Zim makes his escape from Foodcourtia, he learns too late that Snacky Cabs are rigged to explode for "no apparent reason" if not docked. Considering Zim was a former prisoner there, it's possible this is another security measure to ensure the Foodening can't be used as a means to escape.

* When Dib uploaded his brainwaves into his new ship, the ship had such a perfect copy of the boy's personality it remembered Dib's entire life. Now assuming it's the same case with Tak, since it currently stores her personality, Dib has a perfect copy of an already vengeful and slightly unstable Irken [[AndIMustScream trapped in his garage, used like a weapon in his fight with Zim.]] Tak-Ship has already expressed a desire to see Dib die a few times, so it's quite likely this imprisonment has made her personality ''even more'' volatile.

** Furthermore, it's heavily implied that the wormhole leading to the room with the moose doesn't lead into the room itself, but rather lets out ''directly inside the moose's mouth'', hence the demonstration with the walnuts. Zim was basically demonstrating that Dib and all his classmates were going to be eaten the moment they arrived with zero way of escaping.

* Zim has a surprising amount of {{Weaksauce Weakness}}es to Earthen stuff; water, meat, beans, barbeque sauce, soda and juice all scorch his flesh like acid. It's been [[WordOfGod stated]] by Creator/JhonenVasquez that this is because of how polluted Earth is, but there's another reason that reveals itself over the series. In ''Parent Teacher Night'', it's revealed that Irkens reproduce by [[DesignerBabies mass-cloning irken "smeets"]] in {{Uterine Replicator}}s. And the tendency for repeat cloning resulting in genetic degradation is common enough to be [[CloneDegeneration its own trope]]. In ''Bolognius Maximus'', Zim notes his genetic structure is being overwritten by the bologna [=DNA=] much faster than Dib's human genes. In other words? Being a member of an all-clone species means Zim's genetically much weaker than a human, who has evolved amidst the increasingly polluted Earth.

* When GIR takes over the school announcement in ''Room With a Moose'', he says that the kids would be sent on a field trip to a magical land made entirely of food. Given that there are dimensions of pure dookie and itchy, why not food? Unless GIR was referring to the dookie...
* At the start of ''Dib's Wonderful Life of Doom'', Zim surrenders. It's extremely out of character for a Determinator like him. That's exactly why [[spoiler:he chose it for his simulation. Zim has an enormous ego, and he can't accept the idea that Dib is better than him. He had to remove himself from Dib's life, because he can't accept that Dib could be powerful while he's around. Dib had to be somehow involved in putting Zim away; pretending to have caught an earth illness and died would arouse suspicion too early. ** In a last ditch attempt to elicit mercy, Zim asks GIR, "You were my servant once, don't you remember?" to which GIR replies, "Yeah. I didn't like it." While it's possible GIR could have been referring to the short period of conflict he had with Zim while locked in duty mode (as he was able to see just how idiotic his master was), it also could imply that even when GIR is his own usual dumb self, that on some deeper level, he has enough self-awareness and sanity to realize just how terrible his life with Zim really is. That would mean that for all GIR's outward whacky antics, [[AndIMustScream on the inside, he is constantly suffering and boiling with murderous hatred for his existence, though trapped within his own mind and therefore unable to ever do anything about it.]]

** GIR has been seen vomiting throughout the series, and issue 9 of the comics makes it clear that he does so often. It's possible that he has to vomit back every single thing he eats due to his lack of a digestive system.

* Issue 21 of the comic has a classic FreakyFridayFlip where Zim's "Bizmarkian mind-swapper" switches Zim with Gaz and Dib with GIR. For the most part, TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody is in effect, with Zim having to fight Gaz's natural apathy at every turn as Dib deals with SanitySlippage while inhabiting GIR's wonky programming. Gaz, though, undergoes a ''dramatic'' personality alteration over the course of the issue, dropping her games and everything else for a chance to TakeOverTheWorld, eventually stealing Zim's identity and becoming unrecognizable as anyone but a shrewder and more competent incarnation of Zim, retaining none of her other quirks. Dib himself notes that "having Zim's body is making Gaz act more Irken than human." Why? Because she doesn't ''just'' have Zim's body, ''[[HeartDrive she has his PAK]].'' She's essentially undergoing the same process of mental override by which Dib gradually "became" Zim after attaching to his PAK in the unfinished "Ten Minutes to Doom" episode.
-->'''Zim:''' Remember, you said everyone in the world would know the name "Zim."
-->'''Gaz:''' I did. [[ExactWords And now they do.]] [[WhamLine Everyone knows me. And I am Zim.]]

** As seen in the comics, Dib has had plenty of moments in which he TookALevelInJerkass that he didn't reach in the show (more details on the main and character pages). While it could be the more colder side of his personality shining through, could any of the above have also contributed some?

* Discussed in-universe in issue 10 of the comic. In a pudding commercial on tv, a kid gets turned into pudding and flies away. Zim mentions how the commercial never shows the kid turning back, leaving him essentially stuck like that.
* Dib being locked in the containment unit with the snarl beast.
** Luckily for Dib the snarl beast had returned to its docile form when they got trapped. Now the kids it threatened on the other hand (plus Dib who it now has quite the hold of...)

* In “Backseat Drivers from Beyond the Stars” Zim says that The Tallest are closer than ever before and attempts to steer them towards Earth. After he ends up controlling another alien ship and steers it towards Earth it’s not very long before the ship arrives. *** Thus bringing forth the Membrane family.
*** This troper thought there was no such thing as a negative mutation, in that all creatures evolve positively to fit their surroundings, but some don't evolve enough or fast enough... unless the Creationists are right in their belief that everything (including DNA) is and has always been slowly decaying rather than evolving... in which case [[NightmareFuel this is what humanity is going to look like in another few centuries]].
*** MOST mutations are negative. All cancers are caused by mutations, and genetic diseases are the result of mutations (though some, like Sickle Cell Anemia, have beneficial side-effects).
*** Since evolution [[HollywoodEvolution doesn't work like that]] it's more likely that the humans would be suffering from developmental abnormalities caused by exposure to toxic chemicals in utero, similar to how thalidomide exposure can cause phocomelia. Which, fittingly for a Jhonen Vasquez project, would be ''way'' more terrible, pushing this towards FridgeHorror.
*** Humanity's mutations and deformities may explain why [[MadScientist Professor Membrane]] doesn't believe Zim is an alien -- to the Professor, Zim's probably one of the misshapen and degenerate spawn that people have become. [[StupidEvil Zim certainly fits the degenerate part.]]
*** It'd also explain why Zim can pass off his lack of ears and green skin as a "skin condition", or the existence of Old Kid; deformities like that are just that common.

* One for ''Enter the Florpus:'' Why does Clembrane have a stitched-up scar on his forehead? Zim probably had to operate on his brain to install any "programming" that would cause him to believe he was the real Dr. Membrane.

* Issue 21 of the comic has a classic FreakyFridayFlip involving the four leads in an accident with Zim's "Bizmarkian mind-swapper." For the most part, TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody is in full effect, with Zim in Gaz's body having to fight her apathy at every turn as Dib undergoes SanitySlippage while inhabiting GIR's wonky programming. Gaz, though, suffers the most noticeable change while in ZIM's body, quickly going from acting like her video-game obsessed self to dropping everything and [[TakeOverTheWorld Taking Over the World]] to stealing Zim's identity and becoming unrecognizable as anyone but a shrewder and more competent incarnation of Zim. Why? She doesn't just have Zim's body, ''[[HeartDrive she has his PAK]].'' She's essentially undergoing the same process of mental override by which Dib gradually "became" Zim after attaching to his PAK in the unfinished "Ten Minutes to Doom" episode.

* One for ''Enter the Florpus:'' Why does Clembrane have a stitched-up scar on his forehead? Zim probably had to operate on his brain to install any "programming" that would cause him to believe he was the real Dr. Membrane.
