**Another take you can possibly read is that Michael has been locked up for 40 years and likely has years of pent up rage built up because of it. Likewise in his older age Michael may have just gotten even meaner (like a homicidal equivalent of a Main/GrumpyOldMan) and by default is just even more vicious then he ever was when he first escaped.
