** Perhaps one of the reasons Hades is one of the nicest and most reasonable Gods, next to his big sister Hestia (he’s the next oldest), is because as God of the Dead and Ruler of the Underworld, Hades is always getting new subjects in the form of people who died. Part of his job is to decide who gets to go to the Elysium Fields and which ones go to Tartarus. Naturally he will encounter some of the worst of humanity. But he also encounters the best of humanity.

Added DiffLines:

* Why is Hades such a faithful and loving husband when both of his brothers are pretty unfaithful? Well, Hades has a very important job that never seems to end. He’s in charge of the Underworld and since someone is always dying, Hades is always very busy which means unlike Zeus and Poseidon, he didn’t have time nor interest in having affairs. Also many couples were likely to be TogetherInDeath. Perhaps Hades saw through those couples what it means to be a good husband, which is why he and Persephone were one of the few God couples who had a happy and healthy relationship. It does help that Hades is also far more mature than his brothers.

* Most stories of Andromeda mention that she was supposed to be eaten by a monster because her mother Cassiopeia blasphemed and made Poseidon mad by claiming Andromeda was more beautiful than the Nereids. All nice and good as the Nereids ''were'' supposed to be extremely beautiful, including Amphitrite, Poseidon's wife herself, but the fridge comes in when you remember that the Nereids, daughters of Nereus, Old Man of the Sea, had a brother called Nerites, who was even more beautiful than them, and who was Poseidon's first serious relationship besides his wife. No wonder he got pissed off, she was badmouthing both his wife and his boyfriend!

The boyfriend was also tragically and permanently transfigured into a shellfish for eternity, pretty much as dead as an immortal can get. So he wasn't just Poseidon's boyfriend but his dead boyfriend.

** Relentlessly hated by Hera who tried to kill both of them very early on (Herc when he was an infant and Dionysus when he was 3; true, Hera killing D's pregnant mother should have killed him too but the main object of wrath was the mother that time, the child dying as well was just an added bonus in Hera's eyes);

** Related, two of the most empathetic Olympians besides Hestia are Hermes and Dionysus. Hermes' job as the messenger of the gods and a TricksterGod means he's more likely to get with humans than most of the others. Dionysus was born [[SemiDivine only half-divine]] and grew up among humans. Naturally they're a lot more pleasant than, say, [[JerkassGods their dad]].

\n* Nyx is one of the few beings [[TheDreaded Zeus is too afraid to face]], having let her son Hypnos get away with messing with him since he went to his mom. Why's he scared of her in particular and not other primordial deities like Gaea? Depending on the myth Nyx is the mother of many personified concepts, and that includes the Fates...aka the one force [[YouCantFightFate even gods like Zeus can't overcome]]. Imagine how outclassed Zeus'd be if he had to fight their mom!

** On another note, none of the gods, progenoi, or the titans were raised by humans or had human principles instilled in them. Quite literally all of the gods are essentially a bunch of overgrown children who were raised with neglect, abused horribly, or spoiled beyond belief.

** Another reason is because they are all products of incest, starting from Cronus who married his sister Rhea. The gods themselves doing same later on just made things even worse. Some texts have Gaia be the ''mother'' of her husband of Uranus at the same time. 2-3 generations of incest in real life is known to cause many physical and mental problems.

** In a similar vein, as [[Literature/PercyJackson Percy Jackson]] pointed out: Hades has a helmet that makes him invisible and according to some even intangible (meaning he can go through walls while wearing it). While he IS one of the nicer ones, that does beg the question... How does someone know that he's down where his job is and not, uh, right behind you?

Just realized that this applies to more than just the Eagle

* If we are to interpret the Caucasian Eagle as Typhon and Echidna's son, it's likely that Zeus utilized it in Prometheus' punishment [[SealedEvilInADuel to keep it from rampaging and killing people]].

to:

* If we are to interpret the Caucasian Eagle as Some of Typhon and Echidna's son, offspring, such as Cerberus, Ladon, the Caucasian Eagle and the Colchian Dragon were utilized by the Olympians in some way despite the fact that they were the offspring of their leader's ArchEnemy. Sounds odd...but when you think about it, it's likely that Zeus utilized it in Prometheus' punishment [[SealedEvilInADuel actually ''genius''. It's an excellent way to prevent the monsters from running wild and destroying stuff, whilst simultaneously taking advantage of their destructive tendencies. Keeping Cerberus busy guarding the Underworld, Ladon with guarding the Apples of the Hesperides, the Caucasian Eagle with tormenting Prometheus and the Colchian Dragon keeping watch over the Golden Fleece all allow the Gods to keep it from rampaging and killing people]].

these monsters occupied so that none of them ever end up going on deadly rampages.

** As mentioned above, it also provides a horrifying explanation for why cannibalism and killing one's own family members are both ''massive'' taboos in the Ancient Greek world and why the gods take so much offense at both crimes--their own father tried to kill them by eating them.

\n* While this may not quite account for the Ash Tree Nymphs and the Gigantes, the Furies being born from [[BizarreAlienReproduction Ouranos' blood mixing with the Earth]] makes sense when you consider that they're literally being born from their parents' mutual ''fury''--Ouranos' fury at [[SoreLoser being deposed]] and Gaia's fury at Ouranos for [[MamaBear imprisoning her children]].

* The anger the Oplympians felt when they discovered Tantalus' crime makes even more sense when you remember that at least Hera, Poseidon, Hestia and Demeter (Hades wasn't present at the time) all know how it feels to be eaten by your own father.

In like 99% of the stories, Helios is Phaethon's father

* Phaethon asks to drive Apollo's chariot, after his god-father promises to give him whatever he asks for (even swearing by the River Styx). Apollo tries to dissuade him by saying that it's a tricky job; even ''Zeus'' can't pull it off. This doesn't seem to stop Phaethon at all, and when you think about it, it makes sense why this would instead motivate him. Phaethon had originally gone to Apollo to get proof that he was Apollo's son, after the demigod Epaphus mocked his claim. Epaphus himself is a son of Zeus; by driving the sun chariot, Phaethon would not only be well known throughout the world, but in pulling off something that even Zeus couldn't do, would effectively be showing his superiority to Epaphus.
