* Uriel was changed from a pretty generic paradise world, with pegasi and stuff like that, to a planet where all the life we see is some sort of plant. This actually makes Uriel far more of a paradise. Because a planet where every single form of life is a plant, on a planet in orbit around a bright and energetic sun, is a planet without a real food chain. It's a paradise for everything living there, because nothing is at risk of being eaten, and all anything needs to survive is the sunlight.

* It is possible the reason Veronica is so insecure is because her instructions to keep her weight down by eating very restricted foods is not her own idea. It may be coming from a parent. It may even be doctor's orders due to having a medical condition (such as a metabolic disorder) that requires her to keep her weight down in order to prevent major problems. Hence her feeling so nervous and insecure- and taking it out on Meg, who seems to be a late bloomer and unconcerned about her appearance.

* There's one part where Meg tells Calvin he doesn't know what it's like "to have [his] every move mocked and ridiculed". Calvin responds that she'd be surprised. [[spoiler: Turns out, she is surprised when she finds the cheery Calvin has an emotionally abusive father who mocks and ridicules his son's every mistake.]]

* Fridge-Heartwarming: At one point, during the flight upon changed!Mrs. Whatsit, Calvin reaches up and gently touches Mrs. Which's face, who is deeply moved. This is symbolic for two reasons. First, it represents that the children accept Mrs. Which for who she is, no matter what size she takes. Second, it symbolizes that they don't 'tear her down' for being above it all or figuratively being the bigger person.
** In turn, later on, she meets down to their level so it's easier for them to relate to.
