* PapaWolf: Generally, Maxwell with give a DeathGlare at anyone who dares speak disparagingly in his son's presence. This is what convinces Maxwell to [[spoiler:renounce his wish. He realizes Alistair will die in exchange for the world, and Maxwell is not willing to make his son pay the price]].

* AdultFear: The climax has this. One husband wishes for his wife to drop dead, and he's ForcedToWatch as paramedics futilely try to revive her. You also have the threat of nuclear war and people having four minutes to get to a shelter. [[spoiler:In the middle of this, Max through the Lasso of Truth sees Alastair running among the chaos, screaming that he wants his dad, and goes MyGodWhatHaveIDone because his son will die with all of the wishes]].

** Ultimately, Maxwell Lord is not evil. He is a bit slimy and implied to be running a Ponzi Scheme according to a disgruntled investor, but Max genuinely believes that using the Dreamstone will give his son the life he needs, and earn young Alastair's approval. The issue is he doesn't understand that the Dreamstone is inherently a JackassGenie and will not let him attain the life he truly desires. [[spoiler:When Diana shows him that his wish will kill Alastair, Maxwell suffers a HeelRealization and renounces it]].

* ArmorPiercingResponse: In the end, [[spoiler:Maxwell apologizes to Alastair for all the suffering he caused, saying he only wanted to make his son proud of him, and give him a better life]]. Alastair's sweet response is reassuring and soul-shattering: "I don't need you to make me proud. I already love you, Daddy."

* GoodParents: Maxwell is very flawed and sleazy, but he commits to being a good father for Alastair. He makes custody weekends a priority and demands that his assistant spoil his son rotten with a pony or motorcar when he feels guilty about an outburst about Alastair coming too soon in the middle of his success. [[spoiler:Diana finds out through the lasso that Maxwell had an abusive father, and he refused to hurt Alastair the same way. It pays off in the end when Maxwell apologizes to his son and said he only wanted to make him proud and worthy of love. Alastair says "Daddy" doesn't need to make him proud, Alastair already loves him. Maxwell is stunned that he is actually a good parent]].

* LaserGuidedKarma: Maxwell [[spoiler:renounces his wish when he sees Alastair is about to be killed. It's implied Diana gives him a lift to where Alastair is, so that he can reunite with his son]].

* SpannerInTheWorks: Alastair ends up [[spoiler:causing Maxwell to renounce his wish. The man had delusions of grandeur, saying he was a god who could make everyone happy in the world and the wishes would make everything better. Diana snaps him out of it by showing Alastair running in the fields and screaming for his dad, on the brink of nuclear war. Maxwell goes MyGodWhatHaveIDone and renounces his wish to save his son from certain death]].

* StatingTheSimpleSolution: Diana makes it clear she doesn't want to kill Maxwell. She understands he grasped power he couldn't understand. So she tries to catch up and talk to him, to ask him to give up the stone of his own free will. The problem is if she gets even within twenty feet, Maxwell brings out the big guns because he knows what she is. It takes [[spoiler:Diana showing him that Alastair will die to snap him out of it]].

* IJustWantToBeSpecial: After a lifetime of being ignored and likely bullied, Barbara Minerva's specifically wishes to be special like Diana. [[spoiler:It takes her time to understand what that actually means and it's also why she refuses to renounce her wish towards the end.]]

* DoubleStandardRapeSciFi: Steve Trevor comes BackFromTheDead by possessing another guy, but continues his relationship with the title character as if he really did come back. They even have sex, even though the guy Steve's possessing has no idea what's going on and unable to give consent. Despite mundane sexual harassment being a huge theme of the work, neither Steve nor Diana so much as pause to consider the implications of what they are doing to this man.

* TheWholeWorldIsWatching: [[BigBad Maxwell Lord's]] plan to grant the wish of every person in the world ([[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor thereby causing society to fall into complete chaos]] and bringing about the end of the world as we know it) involves taking over a top-secret experimental satellite network being developed by the U.S. Government and simultaneously broadcasting himself on every television and radio across the planet. [[spoiler:Though fortunately, this plan is foiled when Wonder Woman uses the same system and the Lasso of Truth to communicate to the world, convincing everyone to renounce their wishes and restoring everything to normal.]]

** When Maxwell Lord has [[spoiler: reached [[AGodAmI godly levels of power]] thanks to the Dreamstone, Diana makes a heartfelt speech pointing out all the damage that selfish wishing has caused, and that the world cannot withstand it. Maxwell [[ShutUpKirk laughs this off]] and says that he finally has everything he wants...and then Diana says: "I wasn't talking to ''you.'' I was talking to ''everyone else.''" Her speech has been broadcast across the world, and it's enough to get everyone who wished for something to [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone realize what they've done]] and renounce their wishes, reversing the Dreamstone's effects.]]

** In the montage where Diana shows modern things to [[FishOutOfTemporalWater Steve]], one scene shows Steve being awestruck while watching a moving subway train. Subway already existed for a couple of decades in USA at the time the first movie was set.

* ArtisticLicenseHistory: According to the film, every empire where the Dreamstone has been (including Rome, Carthage, the Mayan) collapsed without any reason at all. While there are a few civilizations like the Mayan whose exact downfalls are a mystery, many such as Rome and Carthage had their downfalls well documented by history.

* ShoutOut:
** Diana and Steve's car chase through the desert in pursuit of Max's convoy is highly reminiscent of similar scenes in the ''Franchise/IndianaJones'' franchise.
** During Diana's story of the death of Asteria, the Greek men who supposedly killed her during her LastStand to protect her sister Amazons, ie [[TakeThat toxic masculinity and misogyny personified]], look [[Film/ThreeHundred suspiciously familiar]].

After several release date changes caused by the UsefulNotes/COVID19Pandemic, the film was released under an unorthodox staggered model. The first release date came December 16, 2020 in some markets (mostly in East Asia, as well as Switzerland) where theaters are open. It opened on Christmas Day in some European and North American ones, and will continue releasing into the end of January throughout the world. In markets where the Creator/HBOMax app is available, it will be available for streaming starting on Christmas Day but will only be available for one month. (The film was subsequently made available as a PVOD rental in February 2021.) In the UK, the film was released on December 16th to theaters for one month and will then move to video on demand purchase through WB’s partner, Sky.

* RealityEnsues:
** As [[spoiler:Diana is losing her powers]], she gets shot at several times and knocked into enough force to kill an ordinary human. Being MadeOfIron, before OnlyAFleshWound would occur but not here. Steve has to help her walk, [[spoiler:and tries calling for a medic or anyone to help them]]. There's a real chance that [[spoiler:Diana ''will'' die from the blood loss or body trauma, and Steve knows it's not worth it. He convinces Diana to renounce her wish not only to save the world, but so that her life won't be sacrificed for his. Diana would give up her life for Steve, but she knows she can't sacrifice the world for it]].
** The President's wish for more nukes to intimidate the Soviets instead results with the USSR declaring WorldWarThree because hundreds of nuclear missiles appeared out of nowhere. The President even admits that he would do the same if the reverse occurred.

* DiscardAndDraw: Happens twice to Diana. Her wish for Steve to be brought back to life has the cost of what is most valuable to her, namely her powers. [[spoiler:When she renounces her wishes, Steve vanishes, but not only does she regain her lost power, she gains a new ability to fly.]]

** The Air And Space Museum does not have an airstrip. It's on the National Mall in downtown [=DC=].

* MilkingTheGiantCow: Goes hand-in-hand with Pedro Pascal's ChewingTheScenery (mentioned above). His gestures are downright operatic.

* ChewingTheScenery: Dear lord, you can practically see Creator/PedroPascal's tonsils towards the end of the movie.

* HealingFactor: After Diana kisses Steve goodbye, she renounces her wish, and her injuries heal ''as she is running down the block.''

* CallBack: When Diana makes her WorldOfCardboardSpeech, the "Beautiful Lie" track from ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'' plays, only this time Diana says that there's beauty in truth.

* MomentOfWeakness: After a lifetime of protecting humanity and asking for nothing in return, [[spoiler:Diana refuses to renounce her wish for the one thing she has ever wanted in life: Steve. Even if it costs Diana her powers --or her life with how badly wounded she is-- and with the world at stake, she refuses to consider the option, until Steve gently coaxes her to let him go so she can go save the world.]]

* NoSell: Barbara manages to punch through [[SignatureMove Diana's bracer shockwave]], [[spoiler: due to inheriting Diana's powers from her wish]]. Notably, while in ''Justice League'' Superman was able to interrupt that move no other opponent, ranging from Doomsday to Steppenwolf, were unable to withstand it like that.

* DoubleStandardRapeSciFi: Steve Trevor comes BackFromTheDead by possessing another guy, but continues his relationship with the title character as if he really did come back. They even have sex, even though the guy Steve's possessing has no idea what's going on and unable to give consent. Despite mundane sexual harassment being a huge theme of the work, neither Steve nor Diana so much as pause to consider the implications of what they are doing to this man.

** Wonder Woman [[spoiler:has sex with Steve after he has possessed another man's body while the man is still technically alive, thus committing rape, and she even tries to make it permanent instead of trying to give the man his life back.]] Her only comeuppance in this is losing [[spoiler:Steve]].
