* SpiritualAntithesis: To ''Film/{{Drive|2011}}''. Both films are about a [[MysteriousPast mysterious but charming]] blond-haired, blue-eyed stranger who protects a young woman and her family from threats from his past, eventually [[spoiler: leaving them behind while his fate remains ambiguous [[UncertainDoom despite being stricken with potentially fatal stab wounds]].]] Both films also make excellent usage of UsefulNotes/{{Synthwave}} music and numerous {{Homage}}s and [[ShoutOut shoutouts]] to 70's and 80's movies. Everything else, however, is a complete contrast to the other:
** ''Drive'' is a slowburn crime thriller with spurts of [[ViolenceIsDisturbing brutally graphic violence]] about a GetawayDriver while ''The Guest'' is a stylized action-horror film with some sci-fi influences about a discharged soldier with no criminal background to speak of. [[DarkAndTroubledPast Though that's not to say he's completely clean]].
** [[NoNameGiven The Driver]] is [[TheQuietOne very quiet]] and [[TheStoic stoic]], possesses [[BewareTheQuietOnes a brutally]] [[CombatPragmatist violent streak]] despite [[DoesNotLikeGuns refusing to carry a gun]], is romantically interested with the woman he’s protecting [[spoiler:[[BreakHerHeartToSaveHer but must leave her behind]] in order to protect her and her son]], and is otherwise a genuinely heroic character [[spoiler: who sacrifices everything to protect people he cares about.]] David, on the other hand, is a [[TheCharmer charismatic smooth-talker]] [[TheAce skilled in hand-to-hand combat and firearm usage]] due to military training [[spoiler:and [[BrainwashedAndCrazy superhuman experimentation]]]], has some [[ShipTease mild flirtatious interactions]] with the woman he’s protecting [[spoiler:in order to get her guard down]], and ends up becoming [[spoiler: the BigBad, who essentially ruins the main character’s lives.]]
