* ItsNotAboutTheRequest: When Strange and Kaecilius speak while Kaecilius is temporarily restrained, Kaecilius tries to recruit Strange, and makes some points which Strange is sympathetic to. However, Strange refuses in the end, and not because of anything Kaecilius says, but because it's obvious that whatever noble intentions Kaecilius once had, his service to the DimensionLord Dormammu has twisted Kaecilius and turned him into a ruthless killer.

Too Dumb To Live is a death trope. In this case, since Strange didn't die, he's not too dumb to live.

There, ordinary men and women whom the Ancient One considers worthy are taught to draw energy from other dimensions into the form of magic, learning SupernaturalMartialArts and various other forms of sorcery. Students are allowed the option to leave with what they learned if they want (as was the case with Jonathan Pangborn) or stay and defend Earth's dimension from anything that seeks to threaten it. * TheAce: Strange rapidly proves himself an amazing adept of the mystic arts, mastering magic as rapidly as he mastered medicine (he earned a Ph.D. and an M.D. at the same time) because he's a voracious reader and devoted student.
