*** Apollo’s death in the ring

to:

*** Apollo’s Apollo's death in the ringring is mentioned numerous times throughout the film, and for the first time since it happened, Rocky acknowledges that he still [[MyGreatestFailure blames himself for not doing more to prevent it]].

* FandomNod: When discussing his father's death with Rocky, Adonis suggests Apollo knew from the start that he was never going to beat Drago and [[HonorableWarriorsDeath wanted to go out fighting]]. While never confirmed outright, this has always been a popular interpretation of Apollo's refusal to stop the fight with fans of the series.

* TheGhost: Despite Apollo Creed's death in ''Film/RockyIV'' driving much of the film's conflicts and character arcs, the opponent who actually killed him in that fight, Ivan Drago, does not appear nor is mentioned by name at all. [[spoiler:Drago would later return in this film's [[Film/CreedII first sequel]].]]

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: The Creeds were shown to have an unnamed son and daughter back in ''Film/RockyII'', and Apollo mentioned them in ''Film/RockyIII'', but no other children are mentioned here.

* JerkassHasAPoint: Tommy Holiday berates Ricky Conlan for putting himself in the position where he has to fight Creed's son, a match both believe is little more than PR stunt, due to Conlan's very poor decisions. Holiday's words are harsh but ultimately fair. Conlan was running around with a gun like a common thug, broke the number one contenders jaw and spared little thought for his family or any real consequences. Holiday also points out that Ricky's legacy doesn't matter, keeping a roof over his family's head does.

* JerkassHasAPoint: Tommy Holiday is short-tempered, scheming, and openly berates Ricky Conlan for putting himself in while pressuring him into the position where he has to fight Creed's son, a match both believe is little more than PR stunt, due to Conlan's very poor decisions. Holiday's words are harsh but ultimately fair. Conlan match. He’s also absolutely correct that Ricky’s decisions had wrecked his career, cost him his freedom, and put his family’s livelihood at serious risk. Fighting Donnie was running around with a gun like a common thug, broke literally the number one contenders jaw and spared little thought for his only remaining option to support Ricky’s family or any real consequences. Holiday also points out that Ricky's legacy doesn't matter, keeping a roof over his family's head does. when he went to prison.
