* ''Manga/Reborn2004'':
** In the fandom, everyone seems to think that Reborn and the other Arcobaleno will age and deage as time passes by. This probably stemmed from Lal Mirch who, after ten years, had become an adult once again. But that only happened because she possessed a corrupted pacifier and isn't really an Arcobaleno since Colonnello took her place. There is no real evidence that the other Arcobaleno will age and de-age over time. This may have also stemmed form Luce, Aria, and Uni who looked incredibly alike. They were thought to be the same person (Luce) but it was eventually revealed that Luce is Aria's mother and Uni's grandmother.
** Also, the--now-confirmed--theory that Reborn was actually a full-grown man in the form of a baby was generally accepted by many fans as being true.

** Loosely related to this is the "fact" that neither Shikis are capable of killing Servants, mainly for the same reasons. Because they are "already dead", they cannot be killed again. Much of this is also based off of Word of God; according to the creator Nasu Kinoko, neither Shikis would be a match against Servants. However, Nasu has explicitly failed to comment specifically on whether the Shikis would actually be able to KILL Servants, resulting in massive migraine-inducing power-level arguments.

* Even fluff anime isn't immune. ''Manga/AzumangaDaioh'' has all sorts, ranging from ungiven names (Sakaki, Kaori, and Kagura are all canonically OneNameOnly, while background extras are given fan nicknames like Rachel Handlebars) up to unrequited crushes (remember, only ''one'' is actually shown). Add generous desire for LesYay and stir:
** Two of the fanon names are Kaori '''Aida''' and Chihiro '''Inoue'''. This is based off a panel of the manga, where characters we see the back of the heads of are called these surnames and the backs of their heads ''kinda'' look like Kaori's and Chihiro's. Sakaki or Kagura don't have any commonly agreed-upon names, though, and it isn't even agreed if they're family names or given names.

** A very common belief is that Osaka has forgotten her real name is Ayumu Kasuga. This was never actually seen in either manga or anime, instead being taken from the ''Tsunami Channel'' webcomic. In fact, Osaka was very distraught that she had apparently been kicked out of Miss Yukari's homeroom, as she couldn't find her name on the classroom chart. Turns out, she was looking for her ''birth'' name, not ''Osaka,'' as she was listed down as.
** Another common one is the Nyamo/Yukari pairing. Or, rather, that there WAS one. This appears to have most basis in the fact that [[HeterosexualLifePartners they are still single]] and that Nyamo still puts up with [[{{Jerkass}} Yukari]]. Quite a bit of fanon also revolves around the content of the [[NoodleIncident "love letter" and Nyamo's drunken lecture in episode 14,]] mostly dealing with the aforementioned relationship. Big Name Fan was renamed Fandom VIP to avoid usage of "notable person is a fan".

* Francine is one of the few main characters in the English dub of ''Anime/SamuraiPizzaCats'' who is not explicitly given a surname. Daniel Kary, webmaster of one of the [[BigNameFan better-known]] SPC fan sites, began referring to her as "Francine Manx" sometime in the 1990s, apparently on a whim; the name stuck, and now appears on virtually every web site associated with the series, including the Internet Movie Database.

Except this isn't fact; it's a theory created by English-speaking fans based off something written in the side materials: Specifically, that neither of the Shikis can kill ORT, the Ultimate One from the planet Mercury (otherwise known as TYPE-MERCURY). The reason that neither of the Shikis can kill ORT is because it literally does not have a "death", at least not one that either of the Shikis can recognize. According to Word of God, TYPES like ORT cannot be killed, even if you eliminate their physical bodies, as they don't have a concept of life or death to begin with. Fandom has run away with this, claiming that the reason neither of the Shikis can kill ORT is because it is not from Earth.

Replaced Attack on Titan's dated post with more general examples of Fanon. Also added some JoJo examples.

* ''Manga/AttackOnTitan'' has a grand JigsawPuzzlePlot involving the nature of the last human stronghold on Earth, a country-sized landmass surrounded by fifty-foot walls meant to keep the man-eating giants outside and the humans safe inside, only for everything to go horribly wrong when a titan tall enough to kick in the outermost door appears. As expected, several conspiracies are gradually being unveiled, [[spoiler: groups of humans capable of turning into titans amongst them]], but over thirty chapters in and the readers are still lacking in definitive answers. The manga goes as far as to hide major plot points in easter eggs for promotional materials at times, and chooses to drop subtle hints about things rather than solidly confirming facts unless necessary or the sort of thing that the readers can't figure out based on subtle hints. Naturally, a lot of Fanon is the result. As such, the WMG tab contains an entire section for things that are known for sure, and things that the readers are pretty sure about but are not yet definitively confirmed.

** Bertolt is portrayed as a bookworm, due to him being introduced reading a book as well as to play up his role as [[TheSmartGuy Armin]]'s {{foil}}.
** 3D Maneuver Gear is believed to leave rope burn-like bruises on those who use it.
** Many fans believed that Levi was of French descent, due to early fan translations of the manga and anime translating his name as Rivaille. However, this has died
out based on subtle hints. Naturally, a lot over time with the release of official translations. Since then, a more prominent Fanon is has arisen in the result. As such, the WMG tab contains an entire section for things form of people believing that are known for sure, and things Levi is of Jewish descent, due to his first name (as well as his last name, [[spoiler:Ackerman]]) being a Jewish name.

** The hair color (and eye color ) of the characters. Some consider that Lenalee's hair are green or purple. Kanda's are often believe to be blue or black. And let's not even start on the third exorcists. All this is because of the author's constantly changing the colors on the color spreads and because of the anime. Actually the only way to be sure is if there is any clear mention in the manga or declaration of the author herself. Lenalee's hair are actually stated to be black, Allen's and Wisely's to be white and Lavi to be red-haired and there is no mention regarding the other characters.

Added DiffLines:

* ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'':
** While characters wearing lipstick would become common from ''Manga/StoneOcean'' onward, many fans portray characters from prior Parts as wearing lipstick as well.
** Even fans who don't take part in shipping generally seem to agree that Joseph is UsefulNotes/{{bisexual}}, likely stemming from his [[HoYay interactions with Caesar]].
** While most [[FightingSpirit Stands]] are portrayed in series as mindless, fans like to give certain ones their own personalities, such as giving Killer Queen the personality of an actual cat. Another common Fanon involving Stands is to portray them as reincarnations of dead characters, the most popular being the idea that Star Platinum is the reincarnation of [[spoiler:Jonathan]] and Hermit Purple being the reincarnation of [[spoiler:Caesar]].
** Jotaro is believed to be a fan of Creator/ClintEastwood, due to WordOfGod stating that Jotaro was heavily based on the characters played by the actor.
** More comedic fan works portray Star Platinum as being able to [[PokemonSpeak only speak in ORAs]].
** A common explanation among fans as to why Kira gained Bites the Dust instead of a [[spoiler:Requiem Stand]] when he was stabbed by a Stand Arrow is that when the Stand User them self is stabbed by an Arrow, their Stand will gain a new ability, while when the Stand itself is stabbed, it becomes a [[spoiler:Requiem Stand]].
** ''Manga/StardustCrusaders'':
*** While Kakyoin's comment about wanting to marry someone like Holly was more likely meant to refer to her NiceGirl personality, pretty much the entire fandom decided to take it a completely different direction and instead portray Kakyoin as a [[LikesOlderWomen MILF-hunter]]. Kakyoin is also commonly portrayed as being romantically interested is Jotaro, despite the two [[ShipsThatPassInTheNight interacting very little during their time seen together]].
*** Because Joseph's Hermit Purple and a Stand WordOfGod confirmed to be Jonathan's Stand look identical, many believe that they are the Stand of [[PowerOfTheSun Hamon]] Users.
*** DIO's henchmen (especially the Egypt 9 Glory Gods) are often portrayed as friends during their downtime.
*** Because Josuke was able to manifest Crazy Diamond after recovering from his illness after the events of the Part, many believe that Holly was able to manifest her Stand as well.
** ''Manga/DiamondIsUnbreakable'':
*** Fan works often have Josuke [[LikeFatherLikeSon take traits from Joseph]], such as have him use Joseph's "Your next line is..." line or [[StrongFamilyResemblance having his hair resemble Part 2 Joseph's when it isn't in its pompadour]].
*** A common theory is that Shizuka's mother was one of Kira's victims, and that she awakened her Stand out of instinct to protect herself.
** ''Manga/VentoAureo'':
*** Depictions of Giorno as a child generally give him the hairstyle he's seen with during the events of the story, despite the fact that narration states that Giorno didn't gain this hairstyle until he was a teenager.
*** Abbacchio and Risotto are believed to have an InterserviceRivalry due to the similarities between the two.
*** Fan works focusing on La Squadra usually portray the group as having family-esque bond, with Risotto in particular being portrayed as a TeamDad.
*** Prosciutto is believed to be a chain smoker, due to his Stand having a gas based ability.
*** Ghiaccio and Melone are often portrayed as having a RedOniBlueOni dynamic.
*** Because Sorbet and Gelato were [[PosthumousCharacter killed off prior to the events of the Part]], fans like to fill in their personalities and relationship with the other La Squadra members. Most commonly, the two are portrayed as having non-combat based Stands, Sorbet is portrayed as a KnifeNut while Gelato uses firearms.
*** In order to explain away why Giorno didn't gain [[spoiler:Gold Experience Requiem]] when Black Sabbath stabbed Gold Experience with a Stand Arrow, it's believed that only the Beetle Arrow grants [[spoiler:Requiem Stands]]. Though this doesn't exactly hold water due to the fact that all of the Stand Arrows were made from the same meteorite. Another common explanation is that the arrows will only grant [[spoiler:Requiem Stands]] to those they consider "worthy", which does have some basis in the story.
** ''Manga/StoneOcean'':
*** Jotaro is believed to have met his wife in college, and that she is a fellow marine biologist.
*** Because Jolyne is at one point seen reading a comic with a similar art style to Thoth, many believe that Boingo grew up to become an illustrator after the events of ''Stardust Crusaders''.
*** Many like to assume that [[spoiler:Jotaro's reincarnation in the new universe is named Qtaro]], as a reference to the SueDonym he uses in ''Stardust Crusaders''.
** ''Manga/SteelBallRun'':
*** While WordOfGod has stated that [[AlternateUniverse the universe]] this Part takes place in is a completely different universe to the one [[spoiler:created at the end of ''Stone Ocean'']], many fans like to believe it is, likely due to the number of characters who are counterparts to characters in the previous Parts.
*** Mountain Tim being the AlternateUniverse counterpart to Speedwagon is a common theory, as while a Speedwagon is mentioned to be a sponsor for the Steel Ball Run, Tim's facial scar and one-sided crush on Lucy both bring Speedwagon to mind.

* The ''Literature/ArashiNoYoruNi'' fandom strictly believes the film is romance based. The characters however never refer to each other as anything other then friends, though other series have used that term as a substitute for romantic ones. It helps that in the origin books Mei is gender neutral (though WordOfGod is he saw him as male).

* ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'':
** There are several of these orbiting ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion,'' including Misato's hair color and high-speed driving style (though that's probably more NeverLiveItDown), the personalities of Hikari's sisters, Shinji being a skilled chef, and even some things that directly contradict canon -- like claims that Rei is emotionless, or that Shinji's wardrobe consists entirely of school uniforms, ignoring several occurrences of him in other outfits (excluding the dance outfit and plugsuits). Shinji being a skilled chef actually made it into canon in the second ''Rebuild'' movie.
** The notion that Misato killed Kaji remains popular despite an [[WordOfGod explicit statement from the show's creator]] to the contrary. The idea that Naoko Akagi's soul resides in Unit 00 also persists despite it not making any sense whatsoever.
** Kaji ''never'' cheated on Misato. It's revealed in episode 15 that Misato pretended to have another boyfriend to break up with Kaji because she was scared of how much Kaji reminded her of her father. The idea of Kaji cheating seems to be popular because it helps clear the way to pair Shinji with Misato or to just make Kaji look worse.
** The fanon name for Touji's little sister, "Mari", now has an uncertain future with a new pilot character in the ''Rebuild'' Evangelion movie series [[OneSteveLimit being named Mari]]. In the second ''Rebuild'' movie, she is briefly shown leaving the hospital with Touji, whereas in the original series she never leaves and is only mentioned. In fact, by the third ''Rebuild'' movie, Touji's sister becomes a significant character, and is shown as a young adult named ''Sakura'', which also happened to be the second most common fanon name for Touji's sister.
** The rather popular fan theory that all of the iterations of ''Evangelion'' (the anime vs the manga, for example) are in different timelines is just that: a fan theory. Though, it does rather nicely explain Kaworu's actions and attitudes towards Shinji, as well as explain some otherwise bizarre scenery, especially in ''Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion''.
** Misato wears a cross around her neck, which has led to the fanon that she's a lapsed Christian. In canon, it's actually a heirloom from her father and doesn't suggest anything on Misato's part.
** Due to being raised in Germany, Asuka is often written as either Christian or having been raised Christian.
** Shinji being bisexual and Kaworu being gay thanks to the subtext between Shinji and Kaworu.

* ''Anime/CodeGeass'':
** Half of the fandom believes that Lelouch became the now-immortal Code-and-Geass-wielding RR (Japanese R = L) who lives happily ever with CC ala Spice and Wolf's Lawrence and Horo (Lelouch and Lawrence do have the same seiyuu after all), as allegedly shown in the "Cart-End" final episode. This mainly due to the fact during and after Lelouch's attack, C.C.'s mark is always covered by her hair, and thus unknown if it is gone or not. As it turns out in the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC9NEzvvbsQ CodeGeass picture drama]] set after the end of R2 [[spoiler: he's dead]].
** Fans also love to justify Kallen's SpellMyNameWithAnS by claiming she goes by "Karen" some of the time, usually using one name in public and one when she's doing Black Knight stuff. Others opt for the idea that she really ''is'' named Karen, and "Kallen" is her attempt to reject her "slave name". None of this reflects on canonicity; in fact, characters who only know her in her Stadtfeld identity still call her "Kallen".
** The origin of Lelouch and Nunnally's false surname, Lamperouge; more often than not, it's believed to be their mother Marianne's maiden name, but there's been precious little information about Marianne before she married Emperor Charles[[note]]There was a short LightNovel detailing an attempted coup in the 1990s, but it only ever refers to Marianne by her first name[[/note]].
** It's also common among fans to assume that Marianne has French ancestry.
** Many fans assume that Milly Asford was more aware of events going on then shown. They generally suggest that she was at least aware that Lelouch was Zero, or suspect he was connected to him somehow, due to knowing him for so long.
** Due to material from the Light Novels, his appearance (and death) at Narita, and the presence of Code R in the same location, many fans believe Joseph Fenette was connected to Code R. Shirley is rarely, if ever, told this.....[[BreakTheCutie for her own good]].
** Fans are also fond of referring to the first season as "R1", since the second was called ''R2'' and they seem to assume the R stands for "Round" or something similar (this also extends to calling ''Lelouch of the Resurrection'' "R3" for short). Officially the first season was only ever referred to by its full title or simply "''Code Geass'' Season 1", while WordOfGod said that "R2" stood for '''R'''eturn and '''R'''evolution, the two things Lelouch accomplished over the course of the season.
** Rolo looks like a male version of Nunnally and has an eye color that only the royal family has. This has led many fans to speculate that he's either Nunnally's long-lost {{Half Identical Twin|s}} or that he's her illegitimate half-brother.
** Nunnally isn't quite as innocent as she seems. She's very similar to her brother Lelouch in terms of cunning and intellect, but she [[BeneathTheMask hides it behind a cheery mask]].
** Being a Code bearer is a DeathActivatedSuperpower. This usually goes hand-in-hand with the theory that Lelouch became immortal at the end of the series.
** Fanon will often suggest that V.V was responsible for Lelouch's geass acting up and the resulting 'Euphinator' incident. While he definitely made the aftermath worse, there is no clear evidence that V.V had anything to do with the events that occurred at that point, even if it is not hard to imagine V.V doing so.

* ''Manga/InuYasha'':
** Sesshoumaru is believed to have inherited the title "Lord of the Western Lands", complete with lands, armies, servants and castles. In {{canon}}, no such inheritance exists. Sesshoumaru is a rootless wanderer with a single servant who never met his father, and Inuyasha lives in a human peasant village with his father's only confirmed servant, Myouga. The fanon comes from a single, vague reference to the father, when alive, being a {{youkai}} "who prowled the west". Sesshoumaru's mother does live in a palace that travels through the sky, but even Sesshoumaru is only an occasional visitor who struggles to locate it, and she was introduced years after the fanon became established.
** Another popular belief is that youkai "mark" their mates with some sort of bite on the neck or breastbone and that they go through animal-based mating seasons (and yes it's almost always the ''[[CriticalResearchFailure male]]'' [[CriticalResearchFailure dog or wolf youkai that "go into heat"]]).
** Mostly prevalent in AlternateUniverse stories, youkai have access to enchanted charms (almost always rings) that cause them to appear human when worn, thereby explaining why in the canon Kagome almost never meets any youkai in the present era.
** Jaken is universally believed to be serving Sesshoumaru as a result of a life-debt he owes him. The source of this belief comes from a random stand-alone {{filler}} episode the {{anime}} did that attempted to pad out Jaken's background. The original manga doesn't explore Jaken's background at all and never explains why he serves Sesshoumaru.
** Inuyasha's parents are never named in the anime or manga, but the third movie specifically names his mother "Izayoi," and this is almost universally accepted. His father is often called "Inutaisho," a corruption of "inu-no-taisho" which is his title, not his name, and translates roughly as "The Dog General." Less accepted but still present is the idea that his father is named "Toga." This comes from the third movie too and was a name that the production team gave to him just for the sake of referring to him by name while the movie was being made. In the finished film he's never addressed by name.
** Inuyasha is popularly cited as being 200 years old. This comes from the third film adaptation and not from the original manga.
** Man fans are set on the fact that Inuyokai, and canine/vulpine youkai in general, are very into having pack dynamics, which includes exchanging scents, grooming one another, sleeping together (in the literal meaning, curled up on a pile), and even semi communal raising of children. There also is an alpha, beta, omega and such that plays into how the pack is structured, despite this not really being touched upon much by the Canon.
** Multiple types of Inuyoukai are popular as well, frequently including silver/white, black, and red, sometimes with different social standings and culture depending on the color

* ''Franchise/LyricalNanoha'':
** As several details in the ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanoha'' franchise can only be found in [[AllThereInTheManual supplementary materials]] like the [[AudioAdaptation Sound Stages]] and [[ComicBookAdaptation manga]] which the english speaking fanbase wasn't aware of for sometime, western fans took some 'facts' as a matter of course, such as Nanoha copying Fate's Bind spell (she didn't, Yuuno taught her how to do a Bind in the very first Sound Stage, which took place between Episodes 2 and 3) and Reinforce Zwei being the [[SleepModeSize weakened form of the first Reinforce]] (she's not, she's a completely new Unison Device Hayate designed with the help of Mariel and Yuuno as mentioned in the last Sound Stage of ''A's''). Most of these have died down ever since English-speaking fans learned about the supplementary materials and [[FanTranslation began translating them]].
** Also, Nanoha and Fate are generally considered to be romantically involved. While they are PlatonicLifePartners with a lot of HomoeroticSubtext, it's never made canon. Which can lead to some confusion when people go into the series having heard them described as "girlfriends". There's also that bit where Vivio considers both Nanoha and Fate her mothers muddying the waters. On the other hand, they're never actually confirmed ''not'' to be a couple, either. Their relationship is [[HideYourLesbians just ambiguous enough]] that they could either be lovers or very close friends. For that matter, despite what people may claim, none of the other possible pairings are ever actually confirmed either. Some of the characters have expressed interest, but none of them ever get a RelationshipUpgrade, except for Chrono and Amy (which happened off-screen). It was later confirmed via WordOfGay.
** There are a few other persistent bits of fanon, such as the belief that Graham gave Hayate the Book of Darkness (on the basis that he said that if someone like her, with no friends or family, were sealed away with it, no one would have to mourn her), which is not true. The Book transported itself to Hayate, and Graham tracked it down.
** Also, a lot of people seem to think that Subaru and Ginga were created by Scaglietti. They weren't. It was done partly using his research, but Scaglietti was not directly involved.
** And then there's the theory that the Wolkenritter were originally humans (or in Zafira's case, a familiar/guardian beast) who were absorbed by the Book of Darkness. Nothing of the sort has ever been stated in canon.
** An extension to the above is that Agito was originally created to be Signum's Unison Device.
** Another misconception about the Wolkenritter is that they had all their memories erased every time the Book of Darkness chose a new master. This is directly contradicted in the show, as they make references to how Hayate is different from their previous masters. It is stated that they lost some of their memories; but that only refers to their memories of the Book of Darkness going rampant. They also do not remember anything from before it became corrupted. Their memories of the intervals in between, however, are intact. This is stated outright [[AllThereInTheManual in the commentary to the second movie.]]
** Vivio often calls Hayate, a close friend of both of her mothers, "[[HonoraryUncle Aunt Hayate]]" in fan fiction. So far, in canon, she hasn't called her anything other than "Commander [[LastNameBasis Yagami]]", just like Hayate's subordinates, and even Nanoha and Fate themselves do while on duty.
** There are a number of misconceptions about how [[RankInflation mage rank]] works. It is ''not'' simply a measurement of magical strength; as seen when Subaru and Teana take the exam for advancement, going up a rank involves passing what is essentially an obstacle course requiring the use of tactics, so a WeakButSkilled mage can still qualify for a fairly high rank. However, Hayate's SS rank ''does'' denote her raw power, because she has a "Synthesis" rank, not a combat ranking like what most of the other characters have.
** Another misconception is that Hayate had no linker core before Reinforce merged with her. This is patently untrue, as Signum flat out says that the reason the Book harmed Hayate was because her linker core wasn't fully mature, and it's actually shown on screen for a couple seconds.
** It's commonly accepted that Graham is responsible for Lindy's habit of [[FeeFiFauxPas drinking her Japanese green tea British-style]].
** Fans will often associate Nanoha as a lover of strawberry and cream based deserts and foods even though there is little to no evidence of this matter.
** There are quite a few fans, especially Shippers, who believe that in order to differentiate herself from Alicia, Fate choice her own birthday and that the day she choice was the day when Nanoha and her swapped ribbons and became friends.
* ''LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya'':
** Fans of the anime tend too easily to accept Koizumi's theory that [[spoiler:Haruhi is God]]. Koizumi himself doesn't present it as certain fact; he labels it as a theory and a "worst case scenario" that his Organization is acting on.
** Ironically Koizumi is the one source we ''know'' is unreliable. The acceptance of his version comes from the alternatives being {{Technobabble}} and the other so heavily redacted as to be meaningless.
** Also often accepted as true is the idea of Koizumi being gay, despite the fact that this has never been confirmed in canon. In fact, there is some evidence that contradicts it.
*** In one of the novels, Koizumi says that he only acts the way he does because Haruhi expects it and would ''make'' him that way if he didn't, which fans have interpreted as referring to the HoYay between him and Kyon, but it's more probable that he was talking about his YesMan behavior towards Haruhi.
** Another example is the Fanon {{OTP}} of Kyon and Haruhi. This is likely due to three factors. 1. The rather popular anime is missing a lot of narration that counters the Kyon/Haruhi pairing, 2. The first novel and some of the second, which accounts for the larger part of the anime, tend to focus on that pairing, but the later novels, which tend to not, haven't been adapted yet, and 3. Since the first novel is ''very'' Kyon/Haruhi oriented, much of the evidence in the later novels contrary to this pairing tends to be {{hand wave}}d or used as confirmation bias. It's rather shocking how insistent people are that ''this'' is the official couple.
*** It should be mentioned that this is no mere [[ShippingTropes ship]]. Many Kyon/X and Haruhi/X fans tend to claim that Kyon/Haruhi is actually the official couple.
** Many fans are also convinced that Mikuru is actually a manipulative girl sent to the past specifically to appeal to Kyon. This is never confirmed in any way (or even mentioned after Koizumi throws the idea out there) and in fact what little character development Mikuru has gotten so far seems to suggest that she is actually not very confident in her abilities. This fanon is due to Future Mikuru being a bit manipulative.
** Although not universally accepted, a popular fan theory is that Kyon is the real [[spoiler:RealityWarper]], not Haruhi. This is supported by many things, including the statements in the first episode/first chapter that he was once as eager to find supernatural beings as Haruhi.
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'':
** The fandom splits the Arrancar Arc into five arcs: the "Arrancar Invasion Arc", "Hueco Mundo Arc", "Turn Back the Pendulum Arc", "Fake Karakura Town Arc" and "Deicide Arc", even organising its Wiki/TVTropes entries accordingly. This is despite WordOfGod calling it a single, long Arrancar Arc in interviews. The manga itself backs up the interviews; the beginning of the Arrancar Arc (Chapter 182) is given a rare subtitle, called "Trigger for a New Concerto" to kick it off, and Volume 48 confirms at the end of Chapter 423 that the Arrancar Arc has ended and that the next volume will kick off a new arc, the Lost Agent Arc. The Arrancar Arc is therefore a single continuous arc spanning Chapters 182-423 (Volumes 21-48) and not five separate arcs as the fandom tends to think.
** There is a wide-spread belief that Ukitake's eyes are green in the manga and that his eyes being brown in the anime is a case of AdaptationDyeJob. In fact, the anime is right. His eyes are brown in the manga, as shown in Chapter 116 and at least two [[AllThereInTheManual supplemental databooks]]. The reason fans think his eyes are green in the manga is because of a special colour picture in Chapter 335 which had a "green on white" theme. Kubo changed Ukitake's eyes to green for that picture to match the theme and fans have believed his eyes are green ever since.
** A lot of the fandom is convinced that Byakuya's power is pink when released with the exception of his final technique which is white. In fact, this belief stems from the anime where Byakuya's power in shikai and bankai are coloured pink with the exception of his final bankai technique. In the manga, however, his power is white in all forms, as revealed in the colour chapters of his fight with Ichigo (which also reveals Ichigo's reiatsu is, in fact, yellow in the manga).
** It is almost universally accepted that Ichigo's father Isshin is or was a member of the shinigami [[PraetorianGuard Royal Guard]]. The manga eventually reveals he was the [[spoiler:Tenth Division captain and introduces the five Royal Guard members. That should have killed this belief, but the theory continues to exist that he could have been the Tenth Division captain and now is secretly Royal Guard]].
** There's a wide-spread view that the manga has proven that Orihime is a Fullbringer because Fullbring is activated on a physical object with a mystical light and Orihime's powers also activate via a physical object with a mystical light. Not only are many different kinds of powers activated with a light of some kind, including certain non-Fullbring human powers, but the manga doesn't make any conscious attempt to connect Orihime's abilities to Fullbring. This is in contrast to Chad who has been explicitly associated with Fullbring by the manga. That making a connection between Orihime and Fullbring is an example of {{fanon}} and not {{canon}} seems to have escaped much of the fandom's notice.
** The Hogyoku is often believed to be able to make any wish come true. Aizen explicitly states, however, that the Hougyoku is only capable of affecting desires ''that are possible to achieve without it''.
** Large parts of the fandom believe Aizen is immortal because he has the Hougyoku inside him. However, the manga doesn't actually claim that. The person who knows the most, Urahara, says Aizen is "almost impossible" to kill but never claims he's completely impossible to kill. It's the panicky, judgemental Central 46 who interpret Aizen's state as "immortal". However, Urahara's words suggest that interpretation is inaccurate, something a large part of the fandom tend to ignore.
** Arrancars' holes are... sensitive around the edges, at least according to fans.
** There's a persistent belief within the fandom that a person loses their memories when they move on to the afterlife, reinforced by the first movie which claims the same thing. However, the canon does not support this belief. When Ichigo's group first arrives in Soul Society, they meet Shibata whose soul they saved when he was trapped in the cockatiel. He completely remembers everything that happened while he was alive, and while he was being protected by Sado. Shibata's adopted brother has been in Soul Society much longer and remembers exactly when and where he died (1947). Hisana and Rukia died together in the World of the Living and Hisana never, ever forgot they were sisters. Renji once comments that the driving goal of all people who die and come to Soul Society is to search through Soul Society to try and find the blood relatives they had in life. When Mayuri talks about all the dead quincies he experimented on, it's clear they all have memories from when they were alive and their beliefs remain intact; certainly Souken's memories never faded after his death, as Mayuri uses them to taunt Uryuu.
** In fanfics set after Ichigo [[spoiler:fights his inner hollow and gets his mask]], the hollow always calls him "king." However, in canon it only calls him that once, as an intro to the king-and-horse metaphor, and otherwise calls Ichigo by name.
* ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'':
** CanonImmigrant Ryo Akiyama's Wonderswan games were never released in English and only one saw a fan translation. However, one fan extrapolated from his and Ken Ichijouji's friendship in the games that Ryo also knew Ken's older brother. Over the years this extrapolation and its getting picked up by other fans has quietly snowballed into the odd ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02'' fan with an interest in pre-series Ken believing the three of them are friends is canon.
** Also the name "Masaharu" was used by fans for Yamato and Takeru's father for a long while. Later on, it was revealed that his real name is "Hiroaki", which is an example of TheDanza. A lot of people still like "Masaharu" better.
** In ''Anime/DigimonTamers'', the young pair of twins, Ai and Mako, were never given a last name in the series. Several fanfictions tend to give them the name "Terada."
*** That they're twins at all is also fanon. Ai and Mako aren't actually the same age.
** Related to the Ryo example above, it is generally believed by many that Ryo's nemesis (and actual digimon partner, but that's a long story) is the GreaterScopeVillain of the entire ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'' universe, and that he is responsible for unleashing Apocalymon and setting the events of the series in motion. There's just one problem with that: this is '''never actually stated''' in the games in which Millenniumon appears. Millenniumon is responsible for a lot of bad things that happened, but he's far from the "puppet master" he's believed to be by a large percentage of the fanbase - including some on this very wiki.
*** Continuing the Ryo thing, that he supposedly has the powers to access other universes and timelines under his power, due to holding the status of "Legendary Tamer". While it has occurred in the games proper, it's mainly been due to outside influence, like Moon=Millenniumon deciding to blow both of them to Kingdom Come, or ENIAC opening portals for him.
** The quadrants; officially, they refer to different regions of the DW, with each parallel Digiworld having its own four. A section of the fandom regard Adventure's entire DW as being in the Eastern Quadrant and the Tamers one in the Southern.
** An infrequently-cited theory is that Tailmon's Ultimate form hinges of the absence (Holydramon) or presence (Ofanimon) of her [[AmplifierArtifact Holy/tail ring]]. Officially it's jossed, as various media depict Tailmon with said object evolving into Holydramon.

** In most fan fiction, the 'X' on Ragnarok's face comes from an X-shaped scar he had as a human.
** In canon, Crona speaks clearly most of the time, and only starts to stammer when zhe gets nervous. To read any fic featuring Crona, though, you'd think zhe stammers out every word zhe says.
** It's generally accepted among fans that White Star was the leader of the Star Clan, despite nothing ever being said about his rank.
** Due to a misinterpretation of Spirit's use of a Japanese term for wife ("kamisan"), most English-speaking fans believe that Maka's mother was named Kami. Her name was never actually revealed.
** Many fans like to think that the pillow Crona is seen holding to themself in several episodes was given to them by Maka.
** In fanfics featuring Stein and Marie's children, they usually have ''Literature/{{Frankenstein}}''- themed names like Victor or Shelley.
** Crona has an AmbiguousGender in canon, but fans usually pin them as female due to their pink hair, slight build, and friendship with Maka.

** Yumi and Yuki are frequently mistaken for {{Half Identical Twin}}s. They were born in the same year but months apart.

* ''Manga/DragonBall'':
** In the 2014 full color re-release of the manga, Creator/AkiraToriyama revealed that Android 16 was modeled off of Dr. Gero[=/=]Android 20's son, a Red Ribbon Army soldier who was killed by enemy gunfire. However, plenty of fans don't know or recognize that last fact and instead believe that Gero's son was killed by Goku during the events of the original series, which is why Dr. Gero wanted revenge against him. This mistaken impression is probably aided by the fact that in ''WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged'', Goku ''did'' kill the younger Gero (as seen in a rather well-made original animation in Episode 56).
** Another misconception is the idea that movie villain Bojack was [[SealedEvilInACak sealed inside King Kai's planet]] and released when it was destroyed by Cell's attempt at TakingYouWithMe. This resulted from the original English dub making things up; the original Japanese version simply said that he'd been sealed away by the Kais, and King Kai getting killed by Cell released the seal. This is another one ''Abridged'' has contributed to, which has Bojack literally being trapped inside the planet and occasionally conversing with its inhabitants (to King Kai's annoyance) as a RunningGag.
** Very few characters in the series have last names, in fact, the manga mentions last names have disappeared from use, yet fans insist on giving them last names. The biggest offenders are:
*** Bulma '''Briefs''', though this misconception is caused by the dub. Bulma’s father is called Dr. Brief and the dub assumed that was his last name because that’s how it’s usually done in real life. However, in the Dragon Ball universe, that’s just his title followed by first name. The dub also called Bulma’s mom “Mrs. Briefs, which cemented Brief as a last name. She was just called “Bulma’s Mom” in the manga and anime, though Toriyama said that if he'd given her a name it would have been “Panchy”.
*** Videl '''Satan''', another misconception also caused by the dub when Mr. Satan’s name was censored as “Hercule”. Thus, fans assumed his name is “Hercule Satan”, when in reality, Hercule is a dub-only name, Mr. Satan is his ring name, and his actual name is revealed only in supplemental as Mark (an anagram of ‘Akuuma’ in Japanese, meaning ‘devil’ keeping the theme name with his daughter).
** In fact, canonically the only characters in the show who do have last names are the '''Son''' family, our main characters Son Goku, Son Gohan and Son Goten. When Gohan went to high school, other students even pointed out how unusual it was that he had a last name. Also, of course, Son Gohan Sr.
*** Contrary to popular belief though, not Chi-Chi. She is never called that way in the series, and Chinese women do no change their last name in marriage.

* ''Anime/{{Beyblade}}'': The genders of Bit-Beasts. Dragoon is the only confirmed male due to being the only one with voiced lines. It's common for people to assume that almost all Bit-Beasts are male due to the English dub using male pronouns for all of them. In the original Japanese track they are all referred to with gender-neutral pronouns, so they're really a case of AmbiguousGender (if they're not NoBiologicalSex). The ones that are popularly singled out as female are Dranzer, Galux and Wolborg. Galux and Wolborg ARE implied, but not confirmed, to be female in the anime. Dranzer has no such implication, but it remains popular to think of it as female.
