* The only lengthy Narrow Path installment not narrated by Haymitch, this one follows Effie Trinket, through fifteen years as the escort for District 12. Coming on the heels of a sadistic, hated Escort who put Haymitch and his tributes through emotional torture, Effie comes across as a LighterShadeOfBlack to them. The story follows her wrestling with complicated feelings about both Haymitch and her job, while giving attention to the various victors over that time period (and how much they have to do with her and Haymitch's tributes), with some getting multiple chapters, and others just a few sentences.

* Synopsis: An epic styled multiple generational story covering essentially the entirety of the Hunger Games and the years that follow from the POV of Mags, and those closest to her. It shows Mags as a tribute, a mentor, and the BigGood of the Rebellion while covering her relationships with the other victors (just about every one of whom receives at leas brief prominence), and various machinations within the Capitol. It is generally a grim, serious work, but with a fair amount of {{Shipping}}, and some LighterAndSofter chapters [[Fanfic/{{Checkmate}} It now has a page.]]

* ''Comments:'' This fic is good for both people who like survival and people who like romance. The first 2.5 arcs are about Kat and Crew escaping from D12 and surviving in the wilderness and is written by someone with a background in survival. It is more accurate than the actual Hunger Games. The Romance however is also really well thought out, covering what would happen in the senario of a small group of isolated people. The authors focused heavily on the importance of consent, through Peeta taking the lead. Katniss, Peeta and Gale all discuss their boundaries and what they want which was very refreshing. While there is explict sex scenes, they are skimmable for those who don't like that sort of thing with the romance still flowing. There is also a cute pre teen romance in Prim and Rory Hawthorne. The authors also are on the plan and show your work type of writer. One of the writerws lives in the area they set D12 and the cave where Kat and crew find and live in, so the environment is actually present in real life and the authors thought alot about the effects of the cataclysm on the out district areas (abandoned towns, overgrown highways, what things are left in the world). They also used randomization for less important plot points, and showed there work in the authors notes, which was fascinating.

* ''Comments'': This fic is told from the POV of a teenage Capitol child watching the first games with Katniss and Peeta Games, and manages to be fantastically creepy and ridiculous at the same time, conveying the true CrapsackWorld nature of Panem very well under Starlight's [[TastesLikeDiabetes superficial, saccharine]] monologue.

* ''Comments'': [=Oisin55=] puts a lot of variety within this formula: varying the focus (Game description, pre-Game, post-Game, essay, even statistics), the mood ( farcical, black-comic, heartwarming, horrific), the setting (we learn about each District in Panem). He ties up loose ends from the movies and books, identifying the murdered old man of District 11 or the training film that Katniss was watching on the train. The last chapter, devoted to Katniss, is an amazingly good imitation of Collins' style. Note that it expects the reader to be familiar with the original books.

* Comments: CB's take on a certain fanfic all about the Victors before Katniss and Peeta, with its own minor shout-outs to it. Also plays with loopholes in the series in addition to trying to fill in the gaps of canon. Note that this was written before Collins announced the prequel.

* ''Synopsis'': In the twenty-third Hunger Games, the twenty-four contestants from Total Drama are reaped from their districts, transported to the Capitol, and forced to fight to the death in an Arena overseen by Head Gamemaker Chris McLean. Who will be the sole victor out of twenty-four beloved characters? And is there something else going on behind the scenes in the Capitol?
