** This fic came so highly recommended that I feel terrible that it was disappointing. The supposed research had so many flaws that even a casually World War II-literate reader would be frustrated. The dialogue was flat and stilted, and there was hardly any characterization. Most of what was there relied on [[DoomedByCanon Doomed By Canon]] as a means to illicit an emotional response. My theory is that this is an important fic mostly because it was the first finished long-form Cobra Unit fic published online. Although it's rather newer (only a few months old), the fic [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6188814/1/The_Joy_of_Battle_Historical_Espionage_Action The Joy of Battle: Historical Espionage Action]] seems to be doing a much better job of telling a similar story so far. If it is completed in the near future, I'll probably add it as a rec.
