* ''Comments'': While there are plenty of Alternate Universe fics where the Animorphs are placed in a different setting (see the previous folder), there are surprisingly few that try to replicate the story of Animorphs with characters from a different work, and even fewer that do it well. This is one of them. I particularly liked that no character was a 1:1 expy of the Animorphs. Sokka may be the DeadpanSnarker SmartGuy with a MissingMom, but unlike Marco he also has a sister and a girlfriend, plus his larger friend group, to support him, making him more empathetic to begin with. Katara may be TheHeart and work at an animal clinic, but she's also much more fierce and willing to kill Yeerks than Cassie at first. Lu Ten is pretty close to Ax, but that's probably because we have no canon appearances to base his personality off of.

* ''Synopsis: The Andalite Bandits never stood a chance. They were unceremoniously strafed into oblivion a few months after their arrival. Now he's left dealing with the aftermath of his infestation in a world that is still reeling from the revelations of the yeerk-human war, although all he really cares about is looking out for Jake and the rest of their shattered family. AU (fix fic) for The Beginning; otherwise canon-compliant."
* ''Comments'': This is an AU where Tom survives the war. It's a short story narrated by Tom, and it is by far the best thing I've ever seen with Tom in it. [[https://archiveofourown.org/series/151619 Now the first of a series]], mostly covering events after the war.
** Undoubtedly very well written and characterized, but occasionally veers a little far into "the Animorphs are dumb kids" territory even after the three years of character development in ways that can't just be explained as Tom struggling to see his kid brother and his friends as hardened soldiers, stretching the suspension of disbelief a little. Examples include Marco chasing after a shooter in wolf morph and not checking for any escape routes upon losing the trail; the Animorphs not realizing that cockroaches can fly even though they've flown as cockroaches in the series; and a number of boneheaded decisions during an assessment of a crashed spaceship of the sort they hadn't made since about halfway through the series. Still very much worth a read, but you should avoid thinking too hard about the details.
