* ShipTease: Luz and Amity get quite a bit, much like their home series. The first of such instances was when they collided into each other, complete with both of them blushing.

** In the games, absorbing the Rusalka corpse gave Nero the ability to track hidden orbs and secret missions. Here, it allows him to detect high concentrations of demonic energy, such as when he picked up on Echidna's presence in Chapter 13, [[spoiler:and Phantoms in Chapter 20]].

** Tibbles attempts to swindle Nero and Lilith when they arrive to collect the ''massive'' bounty on the monster Lake Lacuna, insisting the proof they brought was fake and insulting their abilities in the process. Already fed up from the fight, Nero threatens to fling him into the boiling sea, Lilith not so much as protesting, and tosses him over the horizon when they learn he was posing as a receptionist.

* FusionFic: The Boiling Isles are located in the same Hell as where demons from the ''Devil May Cry'' series are from, specifically in the circle of Limbo. Not to mention Sparda is [[spoiler:responsible for killing all the Titans that now form the many isles of the Boiling Sea]].

* OneManArmy: Sparda, naturally. [[spoiler:He was even the one to kill ALL of the great titans, whose corpses now make up the different islands in the Boiling Sea, including the Boiling Isles where the plot takes place in]].

** According to Emira in Chapter 19, Edric was almost devoured by his own locker. According to Edric's POV, that was somehow only the ''second'' most embarrassing moment of his life.

** Edric and Emira's argument has him comment on doing better than her on Beast Keeping questions during a pop quiz, a nod to his [[HiddenDepths talent for the subject]] which comes up in Season 2.

** While initially elated to hear that his mother took him out of school for the day, Nero is disappointed to hear it's to shadow her at the Emperor's Coven. He still goes along with it, commenting that nothing interesting happens at Hexside... GilliganCut to Luz running from the Basilisk.

* BigBadWannabe: The Rogues are this, as while they are dangerous and willing to sacrifice anyone to get the power needed to combat Belos, they never really get anywhere. Whenever they summon a Demon Lord, its quickly taken out as soon as its summoned, with Lilith, Nero, Luz, and Eda having all stopped their efforts before they could get off the ground. WordOfGod even comments that their ultimate purpose in the story is to serve as a means to get ''Devil May Cry'' bosses to the isles.

** King apparently worked as a party mascot before, and has a traumatic flashback involving a kid with a baseball bat.

** Luz and Nero. Both are young teens under the care of a Clawthorne sister who greatly enjoy learning magic, the various adventures they can find on the Isles, and have a prominent relationship with some of the Blight family. But whereas Nero has lived on the Isles his whole life and considered the top student at Hexside, Luz is a NaiveNewcomer who is looked down upon for being human and lacking innate magic. Nero enjoys encounters with the various dangerous demons and monsters on the Isles [[BloodKnight that can give him a good fight]], while Luz is more into the adventure and exploration aspect of the new realm she finds herself in. As for the Blights, Nero and Luz initially got off to a rocky start with the twins and Amity respectively before both grew closer over time. Nero knew Edric and Emira for most of his life and [[DefrostingIceQueen slowly warmed up to them]], eventually becoming good friends [[VitriolicBestBuds despite trading insults]], whereas Luz met Amity recently and [[FireForgedFriends overcame the bad first impression through several shared life-and-death experiences]]. Lastly, while Nero's relationship with the twins is strictly a platonic frienship, Luz and Amity get a lot of ShipTease.

** Happens again when Nero finds out about the twins plan to “prank” Amity by releasing her diary to the school, effectively breaking off his friendship with them.

* VitriolicBestBuds: Nero's friendship with the Blight twins in a nutshell. They mostly love to mess with and tease him, and he returns the favour with snark, but he still seeks them out for advice, and they know when to tone it down.

* ConflictingLoyalty: Lilith is often torn between her loyalty and devotion to the Emperor's Coven and her love for her son and desire for him to be happy. She would like for Nero to join a coven so that he won't be branded a wild witch, but at the same time, she doesn't want to risk alienating him from her by forcing him, which gives her a lot of grief. It gets worse when [[spoiler:Belos himself gives Lilith an ultimatum for her to get Nero to join the Emperor's Coven before the Day of Unity or else he'll be petrified]].

* CurseCutShort: After seeing that his fire didn't remotely damage the book that's keeping Otabin corporeal, Nero manages a "What the fu-" before Otabin throws Edric and Emira at him.

* SpitTake: Parodied by Eda. When Lilith confirms to her that she is a mother and that the kid she'd just been talking to was her nephew, she reaches into her hood, pulls out a flask, takes a swig from it, and then spits it out, either accidentally or purposefully hitting a random bystander.

** ''Skirmish on the Boiling Seas'' reveals that Lilith taught Nero how to budget, a nod to his greater financial success with the Devil May Cry business than Dante.
