* AdaptationalHeroism: In the original light novels and anime, Kokabiel was a sociopathic BloodKnight, but here he has more noble reasons for jump-starting a war and [[spoiler:is actually Modeus, the most passive of the two apprentices of Sparda]].

* BloodKnight: Dante is a heroic example. He loves fighting powerful opponents, and even gets excited at the prospect of fighting Serafall Leviathan when he learns that she [[PersonOfMassDestruction could easily decimate a country]] if she wanted to.
* BroughtDownToBadass: Dante doesn't have any of his Devil Arms when he gets sent to to the D×D world, which prevents him from using his Devil Trigger. He's still a kick-ass InvincibleHero regardless.

* {{Prequel}}: The story takes place well before ''Son of Sparda D×D'' and chronicles Vergil's rise to power within the world of ''Highschool D×D''.

* AdaptationalHeroism:
** Raynare is given a chance for redemption and becomes an associate of Dante, albeit a begrudging one since it was either that or let Rias use the Power of Destruction on her.

* WellDoneSonGuy: Raynare's got it ''bad''. The crux of almost all her actions prior to essentially being reduced to Dante's secretary/maid was to try and gain her father's approval.

* AbusiveParent: [[spoiler:Kokabiel]] is this towards his daughter, Raynare. The guy's probably in the running for the "worst father of the century" award. He abandoned his daughter when she was barely a child and when they meet for the first time in years, he beats her within an inch of her life. Granted, he did show regret for leaving his family and gave his daughter multiple opportunities to walk away, but it's still pretty deplorable. * PlotRelevantAgeUp: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]]. For the story, Vergil is de-aged to a young child.

* BandagedFace: Similar to [[spoiler:his future self, Gilver Bluehide]], Vergil's face is covered in bandages, even as a child.

* {{Irony}}: Bluehide being a Paladin of the Church is this once his true identity as [[spoiler:Vergil is revealed. the most powerful warrior of the Church is a ''half-demon'']].

* BandagedFace: Similar to [[spoiler:his future self]], Vergil face his covered in bandages, even as a child.

* BeAllMySinsRemembered: Kokabiel is perfectly aware that what he's doing will cause the death of countless innocents. Part of the deal that he made with the demons was that in the end, he would die when all factions unite against their common foe and he would forever be acknowledged by his atrocities.

* TheAce: Sir Gilver Bluehide is considered to be the strongest Paladin of the Church. He's one of the few that can challenge, if not outright win against, Dante, was a ChildProdigy and MasterSwordsman at an early age, and is respected even by former exorcists who became disillusioned with the Church. Considering that he's actually [[spoiler:Vergil]], it really isn't a surprise that he's this.

The story now has a spin-off/{{prequel}} fic titled ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13490762/1/Dark-Slayer-DxD Dark Slayer D×D]]'', which is centered on Vergil and his rise to prominence in the ''D×D'' world.

* ShesNotMyGirlfriend: Bluehide is very insistent that Gabriel is not his girlfriend, something Dante takes delight in teasing him about.

* AcceptableBreaksFromCanon: Since this was made long before ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry5'' came out or was even announced for that matter, the story treats the timeline as if ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry2'' comes after ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry4'', when canonically, it's the opposite. The author has acknowledged this, but is opting to keep the timeline the same as when he started due to the story already being heavily invested into said timeline and can't change it without rewriting the story altogether.

* PowerCreepPowerSeep: Averted. The ''Devil May Cry'' powerhouses (Dante, [[spoiler:Vergil, and Modeus]]) '''far''' outstrip the ORC and most devils in terms of what they can do. Dante generally treats any opponent the ORC struggles with like a passing annoyance and the only reason his fights last as long as they do is because he's toying with them for shits and giggles. This even applies to the high-level demons when they arrive, as they are multi-millennia old monsters while the ORC are a bunch of teens who've barely scratched the surface of what they can do at this point. The only characters in the D×D world considered to be outright superior to them are Great Red and Ophis.

* AbusiveParent: [[spoiler:Kokabiel]] toward his daughter Raynare. The guy's probably in the running for the "worst father of the century" award. This also applies to [[spoiler:Vergil and Modeus]], both of whom have been there much longer than Dante has.

* PlotRelevantAgeUp: Inverted. Dante is aged down to a teenager when he gets sent to the D×D world.

* ChildSoldiers: The institute of the Church that Vergil grows up in raises and trains children from an early age in combat. The Archbishop running the institute also suspects that Vergil was one before he arrived given how naturally talented and world-wise he already is.

* SirSwearsALot: Dante's vocabulary is more like what it was in the [[Anime/DevilMayCryTheAnimatedSeries animated series]], so he's got one hell of a filthy mouth on him. He even calls Riser "pussy-splashing thundercunt" among other things.

* IdenticalStranger: Nevan's new body in [=DxD=]'s world apparently looks ''[[JustForPun shockingly]]'' like Rias, to the point where Issei is insulted that she would "steal" Rias' face...and breasts.

* WorldOfSnark: Almost every character has something snarky to say. Really, snark and back-sass are among the most prominent forms of humor in the story.

Dante's life has always been a weird shit-show. Getting sent to another dimension by a giant fucking dragon after fighting [[VideoGame/DevilMayCry2 Argosax the Chaos]] and being reverted back into a teenager? Well that's a new one. Of course, in spite of being given a nice opportunity to relive his teenage youth, there's just one universal constant that follows him everywhere he goes: Paying rent sucks.

* BloodKnight: Dante is a heroic example. He loves fighting powerful opponents, and even gets excited at the prospect of fighting Serafall Leviathan when he learns that she could easily decimate a country if she wanted to.

* StraightGay: Kiba is led to believe he is in love with Issei, but the readers likely wouldn't know that if he didn't profess his love for him in front of the entire school.

* DramaticIrony: The Archbishop allows Vergil to read the institute's library archives despite it containing sensitive information because he believes that it will be too much for a child to understand. Of course, he doesn't know who Vergil really is.
