* WickedCultured: Zuko's canon gripe about the Ember Island Players apparently isn't just him -- Azula also hates the troupe, takes theatre quite seriously, and has many specific complaints about their version of "Love Amongst the Dragons" and how their adaptations make it a worse story.

* EveryoneHasStandards: The Southern Water Tribe is pretty sexist, splitting everything into "men's work" and "women's work," with the men on the ship constantly complaining about having to do laundry and cooking. However, they are ''pissed'' when they find out how bad the Northern Water Tribe is. In particular, the crew is rather snippy that while the South has exactly one waterbender left, the North has enough that they can tell half of them to StayInTheKitchen and not be impacted by it. Hakoda also notes that all the Northern elders who refused to help the South certainly didn't make any attempt to help Yue when she sacrificed herself to bring the moon back. When the North finally sends help, the crew makes sure to refer to Katara as "Master Katara" as often as possible in their presence.

* WeNamedTheMonkeyJack: Hakoda's crew named the ship dog after Hakoda's son, to his embarrassment. He's tried to rename him "Scuttles," to no success. Zuko has more luck renaming him "Seal Jerky," but that mostly just results in him responding to both names. Then when the human Sokka comes on board, he [[spoiler:''names the dog "Sokka Jr."'']] Zuko facepalms.

* CainAndAbel: Deep down, Azula does love Zuko, but she ended up being an accessory to Ozai’s abuse of him rather than risk it falling on her. [[spoiler:Subverted when the two come to blows; she can’t bring herself to kill him and ends up captured as a result. The two of them ultimately decide their relationship isn’t beyond repair.]]

* BrickJoke: When Zuko gets the beads representing his family, he picks a gold one for Azula, because "she'd kill him if hers wasn't special in some way." Much later, when they've (mostly) patched things up, she notes "the gold one had better be mine."
