* LivingBattery: When its robot shell is destroyed, it turns out that E-123 Omega has one of these; the author commented that this was planned for absolutely ages.

The story is praised for maintaining the core personalities of the Canon Characters while exploring what could happen if they used their powers for darker and more selfish purposes in another world - for example, Sonic was reimagined as something of a mascot of an extremist left-wing political party that seems perfectly happy to be funded by criminal activities.

* ABNegative: Subverted. Shadow the Hedgehog does have a rare blood type - but it's B-. And so does Silver.
** In a case of DidDoTheResearch, WordOfGod is that it was chosen to combine drama with {{Foreshadowing}}...

* TheAlcatraz: Shadow has apparently tried to escape Prison Island and failed - and apparently he's actually gotten the furthest of any convict. He's pretty angry at Sonic for insisting that he can.

* AssholeVictim: Silver was sent to prison for killing someone who would have later raped and killed a bus full of children. Since his only evidence was his physic foresight, he's treated just the same as the other super-powered criminals.

* {{Gorn}}: There are a large number of unashamedly bloody scenes that sometimes sink to OverdrawnAtTheBloodBank levels. While not every battle scene involves a fountain of blood, the writer clearly enjoys it when they do.

** WordOfGod is that the author used this 'psychic' approach as opposed to the contorted time-travelling that took place in Sonic2006 (when Silver first canonically appeared).

* AbsurdlySpaciousSewer: The gang end up in one of these. It's even the title of the chapter.

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Sonic asks Shadow to get rid of the dead weight on their team, hoping the black and red hedgehog will just scare Silver away. Shadow has other ideas, culminating in him [[spoiler: murdering Espio and Vector in the prison shower.]] Sonic is understandably horrified.

* DeadFic: NOT TRUE. While some Followers fear it to be true, the story continues, although it is split between two accounts.

** But the story itself is better known for its meta-inversion. The readers don't need to forgive the protagonists for any of their crimes to enjoy the story, and are encouraged to remember. At first glance that's just the writer being inoffensive to RealLife victims. It's odd though; you find yourself feeling sorry for them a lot. Don't worry; there's nothing wrong with you. WordOfGod is that this is exactly how you're ''supposed'' to feel; the conditions in the prison are so horrific, so corrupt, so inhumane, that even these murderers and rapists are getting DisproportionateRetribution. That clash of emotions you're getting? That's ''intentional.'' You have to feel it to believe it.
* EmbarrassingFirstName: Shadow the Hedgehog's full name is [[GenderBlenderName "Ursula Leslie Robotnik",]] which is why he insists that everybody call him Shadow, but Sonic occasionally embarrasses him with it. At one point he explains that it means "Oops, we expected a girl."

* FiveManBand: Okay, they're bad... but they're still the guys you should be rooting for, and there's five of them. They fit so neatly they don't need the slightest ounce of justification.

* IfItsYouItsOkay: Shadow is not gay. [[spoiler: That doesn't stop him from getting hot and heavy with Sonic.]] They're interrupted before it can actually go anywhere, though.

* IncorruptiblePurePureness: The prison doctor Amy Rose Blossom is intended to be this. However she is not a PuritySue due to her SympathyForTheDevil, a flaw which has her sympathising with the convicts whom the story actually revolves around. She is far from the Protagonist, and while she proves very convincing, certainly doesn't control the other characters.

* PsychicPowers: Silver has [[MindOverMatter telekinesis]] and can [[{{Seers}} predict the future.]] Upon arrival at Prison Island he's given an injection that takes away those powers.

* RapeAsBackStory: Shadow the Hedgehog was sexually abused by his Foster parents. Later it is explained via flashback that his Foster father repeatedly forced him to have sex with his (willing) Foster mother, leading him to interpret sex as an act of punishment, rather than pleasure. The reason it is not discussed in depth is because, quite simply, he doesn't want to talk about it.

** Shadow and Silver had elements of this, [[spoiler: until it was revealed that they were father and son.]]

* StrawMisogynist: Heterosexual major character Shadow the Hedgehog hates women, loudly classing them as sub-people. This is how he justifies his violence towards them to himself. The sole exception seems to be Maria. Interestingly, his hatred for women is the sole facet of his personality that is neither justified nor explained.
** This seems to be intentional. Subtext suggests that Shadow doesn't ''really'' hate women (at least no more so than he dislikes just about every other living creature); he just rapes and murders them and claims that he did so because he hates them.

* [[VillainProtagonist Villain Protagonists:]] The whole main cast consists of violent convicted criminals. They don't even have a particuarly heroic goal; they just want to escape. But because the story is centered on them, they get the SympatheticPOV and you completely forget they're a collection of terrorists, serial killers and rapists (even though the writer never lets you forget).

My dad was always sayin' I was a total fuck-up as a son and a Merc… When I first got locked up in medium-sec, he… he visited just to remind me… He was like that to [[spoiler:Nic,]] too. Treated her like a failure as soon as she could walk… And last time he visited, he told me I was gonna die alone and a failure… Y'know, him bein' so wrong 'bout that is… kinda makin' this the best day of my life…

* WouldntHurtAChild: Shadow would never hurt a child.

* YourHeadAsplode: Silver kills a future rapist in this matter. However nobody believes this was really going to happen and even the author suggests he may simply be insane.
* YourTerroristsAreOurFreedomFighters: Sonic, Manic and Tails consider themselves this to some degree, being members of an undefined extremist political party opposing the current government. Sonic is even one of its mascots. However Sonic robbed banks, Manic has destroyed government buildings, and Tails committed international fraud to fund them. The author suggests that the party they belong to should currently be thought of as being on a level with the IRA.
** The IRA is officially responsible for at least 2000 deaths and a lot more deaths can be attributed to supporters who weren't acting on orders. WordOfGod is that the author ''knows'' this, and even though 'only' 36% of those deaths were civilian, it still makes Sonic's status as a political mascot a little less heroic...

* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: E-123 Omega is probably the only guard who does his job properly.

* PornWithPlot: There is a MASSIVE amount of graphically detailed porn in this story. Interspersed with a massive amount of drama.

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Vector is at the top of a criminal empire and he's just as dangerous if not more so as his subordinates. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] because he had to climb his way to the top, he wouldn't be in that position if he wasn't {{Badass}}.

* DueToTheDead: There is a funeral in which nine convicts are buried in the prison grounds. One of the prison customs is that the killer, if known, should dig the grave; otherwise one of their closest should do it. Shadow ends up digging and filling in four graves, and attends the funeral, showing great respect for the dead. Several other cons follow his example.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: During the funeral, it's not just our heroes who show respect for the dead; other convicts are shown to break down emotionally, including a Jock described as being "as broad as he is tall" as his bitch is lowered. At the same time, the other convicts do not mock them for it.

** Scourge tries this on to Sonic when the two of them become cell mates. He fails. [[spoiler: The second time, however...]]

* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: This is the reason for Shadow's infatuation with Amy. It's also the why he develops feelings for [[spoiler: Sonia.]]
