Chloe was being insensitive when he got a fever, only asking if he can come have more ghost adventures with her. Goh then admits to his parents that ''he'' also messed up -- the only reason he got sick in the first place was because Chloe ''warned him multiple times'' not to chase after a Vivillon floating in the river, which led to him getting sick with a fever in the first place.

'maybe' this counts. Honestly I'd have kept the Ash bit if his demotion from importance wasn't a problem in story that makes it hard to actually call what happens with him a decon-recon.

* DeconReconSwitch: While Act 1 continues the trend of ''Blossomverse'' stories of destroying tropes with a donut holer, the second act takes time to reconstruct them.
** Goh and Chloe's dynamic when they were younger were BroodingBoyAndGentleGirl. But Goh was so absorbed in his brooding and incapable of expressing his feelings towards Chloe, that he was unable to be grateful for all that she did for her and Chloe eventually got fed up and became the brooding girl to his gentle, albeit energetic, boy prior to the start of the story. In their talk in the Harvest Moon Car, Goh admits that even in his darkest moments, he was grateful for Chloe's presence and Chloe herself is incapable of actually hating him -- rather she hated how they treated one another. This also is the same for Chloe's OnlyFriend status. While Goh originally looks like he could care less about her, Act 2 is about him admitting that he always cared, just didn't have the proper avenues to express it.
** Goh's focus on hunting Mew and the general idea that PassionIsEvil. The story initially goes down the same route as the original trilogy, claiming that Goh's focus on Mew and not Chloe was for the worse, and generally making it seem as if having a strong focus on the wrong thing is a horrible thing, despite an early claim that having a goal wasn't so bad. Later in Act 2, however, the trope gets reconstructed once an interesting side effect is pointed out: since those with single-minded goals are almost always focused on said goals, they're almost never at a crossroads on what to do, meaning that people like Goh and Ash ''are immune to being Train-snatched''.
** Speaking of Ash, his whole character gets reconstructed in Act 2, though in different context compared to the original trilogy. Like there, Ash's kindness and charming nature making him easily approachable is made to look like him being a black hole who doesn't care about Chloe, and whose mere presence is making things more problematic for her. However, these exact same traits end up helping the two connect; as his kindness and patience means he doesn't hold a grudge to her, and he's willing to hear her out and try to talk things out even as Chloe constantly fumbles being honest about her feelings to him.
** Goh and Chloe's talk during the Harvest Moon Car does this with the FairWeatherFriend. ''Both'' of them claimed to be each other's friends, but thanks to a variety of factors, including Chloe and Goh's own issues, they barely even qualify as acquaintances by the time the story began, with Chloe's power trip-fueled spite and Goh's spiraling inability to keep his mouth shut not helping things. However, once the two eventually get enough development to break away from their black-and-white mentality, and learn to ''shut up'' and listen to each other for once, they manage to convince each other that they can still make the friendship work.
** NoSocialSkills is taken a swing at too. Chloe's reactions to Goh's piss poor social skills is to be so ''annoyed'' at how Goh can't take a hint and how he has so little awareness of when he's putting a giant foot into his mouth. However, Chloe ultimately states for all that Goh said to her, she doesn't ''hate him'' and honestly wished that they were able to vocalize their feelings better. And just because Goh can't properly vocalize his problems, it doesn't make him a complete asshole. He ''always'' cared for Chloe, but just had problems properly putting it into words.

The fic shows the events on Chloe's side, in how she's bullied and teased because she's the ''only'' person who goes out to get the sheets and Goh's remark now shows how ungrateful he is for Chloe waiting for him and shows little to no concern over the Lugia stunt severely hurting him.

Added DiffLines:

* JustEatGilligan: With how much trouble school is shown giving Goh in later chapters, it really does raise the question of why he even bothers to go to school. He has a job at the Cerise Lab, Ash and other trainers don't go to school and they aren't given crud, and nothing about school sounds like it would give him any benefit (it might help Chloe, but that's about it). It would honestly be a better solution for him to drop the test promise and just stay as far away from the place as possible.

** Goh ultimately concludes that both he and Chloe were at fault for their camping trip that was explained in Harvest Moon Car. Chloe was being insensitive when he got a fever, only asking if he can come have more ghost adventures with her. Goh then admits to his parents that ''he'' also messed up -- the only reason he got sick in the first place was because Chloe ''warned him multiple times'' not to chase after a Vivillon floating in the river, which would've gotten him sick with the fever in the first place. He then points to his parents that while Tokio could've done better with the delivery on why he was sick, Goh isn't a saint either. After all, he could've gotten better if he actually ''explained'' his angst properly and appreciated what he had.

And those that enforce the isolation are shown to either be flawed or apathetic.

* SchoolIsForLosers: This is Goh's opinion of Vermillion School at least, and the story does little to give him a counterargument; those who are shown to attend the school are always shown to be miserable, and would rather be out being Pokémon Trainers than stay any second longer there. Unfortunately, this doesn't help Chloe -- who is stuck at school -- who only wants him when she's on the verge of giving up on her life. This trope is also played with since Goh does meet up with a few upperclassmen who seem to be doing okay and the nastiness ist mostly centered on his and Chloe's class. In Harvest Moon Car, Goh decides to go back to school not only to catch up on what he's been missing (since Chloe was the only one who ever gave his homework, no one in his class has picked up the slack and it's been more than two months since she ran away) but also to gather all of Chloe's art projects as proof that she was well liked by her classmates.

Specter was left in his room without anyone to help him go through his geass-amnesia, Goh was always stuck in his room searching for Mew before he became a research fellow, and while Chloe had people and a loving family, along with a safe haven in the Cerise Institute, she was still alone and had no one to open up to. ** If you keep a promise, be ''serious'' about actually keeping them. If you keep breaking a promise yet never do anything to change it, you prove to others that you cannot be trustworthy. Chloe's problems at school and her trust issues stem from not having people actually keep their promises. Gloria points out that people all around her never do anything to maintain their promises which ultimately makes it feel like Chloe will never find peace.
** If you can't keep a promise, make sure to apologize as soon as possible through direct communication. Tokio decided to ask Celebi to rewind time to a year ago and leave a letter at Celebi's shrine instead of doing the smart thing and tell his parents to call Goh's about it so they have proper closure, the same with Goh and his parents.
** While making a promise is important, make sure you understand which promsies are more important than others. Goh is able to keep a promise to go to testing once a month; but he can never keep a promise to be on time for Chloe and always makes excuses to never do it again...yet he keeps repeating the cycle all while ignorant to Chloe's problems.
** Don't make a promise you can't keep or you have to resort to hurtful methods to achieve. Sara "promised" her classmates that she could all get them a Pokémon...by having them bully Chloe until she gave in to their demands. There was no way that this would be successful or that this wouldn't have severe reprecussions on both sides. On that note, don't believe a promise that involves having to hurt others, else you end up losing everything in the end. Right Class 5-E?

Showing kindness to others is strength. Don't constantly AccentuateTheNegative because it makes you just as bad as the people you're spiting on.
** If someone is going through a mental health crisis, ''don't shove them off to the side'' and call it "healing". Specter, Chloe, and Goh at some point were just left by well-meaning caretakers who assumed that this is better for their health. It turns out that these actions only ''aggravated'' their problems, with Chloe nearly killing herself out of sheer despair. It's only when someone actually talks to them , or in Chloe's case she gets a therapy app to talk to others, that they can start working on themselves. Yuri himself notes that the Train needs to do more to address how many people have probably ended up ''killing themselves'' out of sheer despair over having so little to work with. When someone is going through a mental health crisis, constant attention and care is needed.
** Just because people have "privileges" or living their best lives, it doesn't mean that they ''aren't'' full of psychological traumas and it is cruel to see them as one-dimensional beings who can't feel. Chloe and Parker may hate Goh for how he's oblivious to everything that's not Mew or his job, but neither of them knew that Goh had abandonment issues thanks because of Tokio. Chloe's classmates didn't see anything ''wrong'' with how they were treating Chloe so long as this monster lover could shut her flying feather mouth and she caters to her needs with Sara admitting that she constantly bullying because she never fought back. Goh himself didn't see anything ''wrong'' with Chloe except not having an interest in Pokémon, while Talia struggled with the ''concept'' of her daughter in pain when she's too busy drawing smiley faces to pay attention to how the real one is frowning.
** A bit of isolation is good to connect to yourself, but you shouldn't be alone. Humans are social creatures and ''need'' to connect with others if they ever want to grow. Those on the Train are willing to heal once they are able to connect and talk about their issues. Whether it's Goh and Chloe over their friendship problems, Yuri talking to his parents about the fall-out that got him on the Train, even Simon starts his HeelFaceTurn after talking to his mom, these bonds are what is necessary for people to develop.

* CerebusCallBack:
** Victor and Gloria are bewildered over the idea that the only thing Goh cares about Chloe is that "she's no longer into Pokémon" and barely recognized anything ''else'' about her, as if to say that he's just like her apathetic classmates in that Chloe being into Pokémon is the only thing that matters. Turns out Goh was somewhat correct -- Harvest Moon Car reveals she ''was'' into Pokémon, and uncovering that is the key to her hobbies and depression issues.
** Chloe running away after Goh screams at her for lacking a dream is bad enough, but Harvest Moon Car reveals this wasn't the ''first'' time Goh spat that back at her. When she tried to warn him not to chase after a Vivillion, he called her a coward in response.
** Chloe saying that she felt like to be like Goh, Ash or her father in order to be loved also gets harder to look at once it's revealed how she wanted to bring Goh on her own adventures and he was too occupied with his own issues regarding Tokio to notice.

While Gloria proves him wrong that Goh was understanding, Trip was proven to be valid to be wary of Goh's lack of listening skills. Harvest Moon Car reveals that Goh didn't bother to listen to Chloe's warnings to not catch a Vivillon over a river which nearly ended with him drowning.

When Goh's Pokémon ''allegedly'' grab tickets as to who gets to beat up Chloe when she returns for everything their trainer has suffered indirectly or directly because of her, they get called out and made to be solely in the wrong; first by Parker guilt tripping them without meaning to, then by Goh reading them the riot act, all while putting Chloe on a pedestal and tearing himself down. However, Chloe later admits that she kinda deserves their punches and agrees to it, with Goh supervising it.

** When Victor calls Tokio, he tells the boy that if he just told his parents to call Goh's parents, instead of his convoluted plan to leave a letter at Celebi's shrine or asking Celebi to travel back a year before, it would've prevented Tokio from getting on the Train, prevent Goh from being isolated from others and later save ''Chloe'' from her own bullying.
** Because Chloe properly calls her mother and promises to Parker she ''will'' come home when she's in the Elephant Teapot Car, this means the latter will have zero chances to go off the deep end.

The problem isn't that Chloe was unaware that she was being insensitive to Sycamore, it's that when the two going missing was mentioned, the narrative made it seem like focusing on Sycamore over Chloe, regardless of context, was wrong.
